Orbital vs Underworld

http://music-map.com/underworld.html

After a few minutes it says people who like underworld also like BoC and []pusher. BoC and Mr. Jenkins, are nothing like Underworld, I'd of thought it would of been the Chemical Brothers or Future Sounds of London.

Next up.... music map, crap or not crap? ;)

Problem with Underworld is they're too mediocre, its' just not quite 'there' yet. It just lacks 'ggrrrr', and I think that comes across in the music.

They also sound too close to James Lavelle (who has done one good album, psyence fiction).

Some of their remixes are good , like human behaviour and leave home.

Bootleg Babies is perhaps (which is done by fans IIRC) is their greatest work, but even then.. you're waiting for mmmmmskycraper, kittens and push upstairs and find your self skipping the rest.

There music has no teeth. It keeps you on the same level too long, and you become nauseated. You can imagine Santa's elves listening to it. If I want to be nauseated I'll listen to the The Osmonds or Underworld.

Candyfloss music. Blurgh!

Bollocks.

Maybe you just don't 'get' techno?

orbital... but underworld were class too

edit to add: is it sad to admit that I had tears in my eyes when orbital did that last set at glasto? er too late i just admitted it...

mind I had spent all weekend medicating myself carefully so I'd be in the perfect mdma'd state for that set, and for some reason was wearing a gold dress and big blue floppy hat, so the tears were probably the least of my problems :o

Underworld are to "techno" as ...
<insert similes>

To my ears they're basically "blokey indie" with slight mainstream dance anthemic qualities.

The've actually done more than Born Slippy. ;)

I really hate to hear myself saying this but the winner has to be Underworld. I'm thinking back to Lemon Interrupt (a cracking and seminal tune that exploded in the clubs unlike anything by Orbital), and don't forget Rez, Dogman Goes Woof, Minneapolis, Spikee, Cowgirl and Eclipse / Big Mouth.

Of course they inevitably disappeared up their own arses but they were superb live - the techno, and wider dance, scene really benefitted from Underworld and Darren Emerson. Orbital were great but a little more tacky with Doctor Who theme tune remixes etc. and some serious over quantising. Don't get me wrong, Lush was a superb release but let's not forget that a very fine version of Lush is an Underworld remix! Anything post-Satan was a bit shit - same tricks, same sounds.

I guess the same could be said for Underworld too - that they're a bit samey - but their contribution to electronic music easily superseeds the slightly corny Hartnoll brothers.

worse than them little limp bizkit bastards, and moby, you can get stomped by obie, you 30 year old bald headed fag blow me. You don't know me, you're too old let go its over, nobody listens to techno!

Oribital - done computer games, OSTs, and a big fuck you to the gulf war, they even had alison goldfrapp and david gray before they were famous

Underworld... oh yeah, they've done sweet fa :D

what's the name of the orbital track that's a bit drum n bassy, wasn't on an album (I think) and came out about the same time as when underworld went a bit drum n bassy with perals girl? (i've got it on 7" somewhere at home but can't remember it's name at the mo, it was on some TV programme the other night)

Well, you've made me mind up for me then. Underworld it is then

...at least they didn't help breed the monotonous head-wobbling seeping borebag that is David Gray either.

More seriously, I lost a bit of affection for Orbital after seeing them doing that cheesy DrWho thing too many times live. And all that 'It's our last ever gig, honest' saga didn't endear me to them too much either.

That's got fuck all to do with how good their tunes are though. And Dr Who live used to be a fucking brilliant part of their live show.
