Orbital to re-form!!!

if you're wanting to investigate orbital, the second and fourth albums are the best examples of their work - although there was also a few non album tracks from around the second album (the naked & the dead for example) which could also do with investigating. i've only seen them live once (at glastonbury, 1999 i think) and they were past the height of their powers live by then, and frankly a little dull (although tbf underworld were also pretty dull that year...). but if you can track down a bootleg of a live show from around 93/94 (they exist, although i haven't one to hand) they sounded amazing then...

fwiw I love Live At Glastonbury, it's wonderful. I just can't dance to anything on it, not a proper stomp anyway. It's head nodding, swaying, chill out music. Even Satan doesn't really get my feet moving, though I do like it.

If only I still had my C-60 recording of their 92 live set at Norwich Sound City, taped off Radio One (with N-Joi and the Prodigy).

I half agree, but it is all a little bit grating now.

honestly, I could have waited another few years.
I never listen to them thesedays at all, although I know it'll come back to me eventually.

hopefully they'll put a bit more into it than the farewell gigs............

they made wonderful, inventive, often lush but equally often abrasive techno full of ideas and with a sound all their own.

this.

tho listening to them again recently, i did get a bit sick of the vast amounts of 'ethereal' (ie a bit toss) female vocals

Last few records before they split weren't up to much but I'd love to see them live again.

One of the perfect festival bands, Orbital. :)

We've had Phil Hartnoll play an orbital classics set for us twice in the last couple of years as part of a package with his newer Longrange stuff (well once that, once doing an aftershow party for him), and we've practically had to drag him from the stage at the end each time coz he was getting so into it (and blowing the roof off). Was really pretty much a full live show the amount of kit he had on stage as well.

I had a feeling this might be in the offing given how much he obviously loved playing his old stuff, and seeing a new generation getting properly into it.

Here's Phil playing Chime at our night a couple of years ago - anyone who reckons that's too chilled out to dance to should lay off the speed IMO.;)

might have to consider Big Chill for a change this year:hmm:
