On this Netgear router, the DNS settings can be changed on the Basic Settings page.

you should have something like."Use these Domain Name Servers." With a tick box. Check that and enter those Open DNS addresses.

Don't change any other IP addresses.

I have orange broadband. No real problems to speak of.

There was a problem when I was setting up in a new house and could not get the wireless connection to work. Their telephone help was pants. Luckily I managed to fix it on my own in the end.

I have a wanadoo livebox, wanadoo were part of orange and later rebranded as orange.
 
My orange broadband has been right flaky since last friday. It seems to have recovered today but before it would disconnect me every 5 mins.
 
Re: the orange DNS problems. It's a known bug and the peeps at orangeproblems.co.uk have a workaround that fixes it. Little bit of software an a couple of settings. Something to do with packet length aparently. It's in the frequent problems page or somesuch.
 
Like an abusive partner, no matter how often they say they'll improve and how things will get better, they'll just fuck you over again and again.

Sack 'em off and never look back :)

My speedtouch usb modem is fucking up so I rang up - bloody useless. :mad:
what's wrong with it?
are you able to connect another way (router etc)

I binned off the speedtouch as soon as I was able to (thanks to freecycleU75 and a free router from Idaho)

would recommend trawling you local freecycle site (yahoogroup), lots of wired routers go on there as people upgrade to wifi etc
 
I don't know. It just started cutting out (the lights went off) then eventually my laptop stopped recognising it saying there's been a malfunction with the usb device. On my desktop I can still connect but it still does the cutting out thing.

Thanks for the tip on the routers. I'll look into that though I think I might just upgrade to the livebox thing.
 
I've got a livebox now. Anyway, anyone else been having trouble today? Haven't been able to get on all afternoon. I'm on now but it is well slow.
 
Another pissed off Orange customer here – they left me without connection for two weeks recently FFS! :mad:

After two replacement speedtouch usb modems they upgraded me to a wireless router, which got me back online.

However, I get downtime of 2-3 hours 2 to 4 times a week – grrrr! :mad:

I am currently making a note of all the downtime, so I can cancel the remaining 9-months of the contract and switch – although they have given me 4 months free, so I am not in too much of a rush.

Little bit of advice – forget the tech support line, go for the customer support line and select the ‘thinking of leaving Orange?’ option – guaranteed UK call centre and much more helpful! :D

Yeah their help lines are fucking useless. I've had crackly lines, faint lines, and I've had it cut off at least twice. :mad:

Fuck knows what was wrong with my livebox. It seems like it just decided not to work. Now that it is working the signal isn't as strong and I've had to move it so the PCs can connect to it. I'm literally sitting on top of the thing.

Anyone else using them?

Once every couple of months, I get no internet access for a few hours half a day at a time. Now on both machines at home. Google.co.uk frequently doesn't open. Either a 404 or can't resolve DNS. Wikipedia same. Email's broken anall.

I'm putting off phoning their tech support. Cos they're mostly useless. Can't even Google reliably to see if it's a patch, firmware upgrade for router etc, etc.

Yup it's fucking shit, I have it at home but can't really complain because it was here when I moved in and I don't pay a penny for it...:o
 
Another great day as a Orange broadband customer, just got connection again after it went down just after 11.30am -about 3.5 hours - bloody muppets. :mad:
 
For people using vista, here's how to set up the open dns

(1) Click Start...

(2) Go to Network..

(3) Click on Network and Sharing Center...

(4) Click on Manage Network connections...

(5) Find the Local Area Connection icon (or wireless if you're using that) and right-click on it, then left-click on Properties...

(6) Find Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click on it - it should become highlighted - then click the Properties button...

(7) Enable your custom dns by clicking the radio button then stick the open DNS numbers in the dns section and save.

I phoned the other day and await my MAC number. Going to ADSL24. Course they tried to keep me with offers of their new router and wafffled about something or other. But I've had enough.

Yeah I was a bit annoyed at that. The bloke told me he didn't have the number there and another dept had to post it.

That post I quote above was made on the 25th JULY – note that date.

Today I receive a letter saying they have tried to take the August payment (which, of course, they shouldn’t be taking because they gave me 4 months free), but have been unable to do so.

The letter goes on to suggest my bank account details ‘aren’t quite right’ – just the same fucking details they have been using for about a year! And yes there are funds in the account, so clearly it’s a problem their end.

Finally, get this, they are charging me £5 for late payment! WTF x 10,000! :mad:

So, I phone the muppets and they say I must have cancelled the direct debt, but I haven’t.

So, I ask why they are trying to take payment when they had offered 4 months free and they claim they only offered 1 month free, but still couldn’t explain why they were trying to take the August payment :mad: – they took the 10th July payment, so even if it was one month free, it would be free for August.

They also claim the conversation I had with them was on the 27th JULY, so how comes I posted my pervious post on here TWO days before the conversation with them? Also, why does my phone bill show the conversation was on the 27th JUNE? :mad:

They still dispute the facts (date of conversation & what was promised) and are going to track down the recording of the conversation and call me back tomorrow.

orange are total shit, we in my flat left them over a year ago with no regrets leave now!!

I get up this morning and guess what – they had disabled my Internet connection! :mad:

They had promised to get back to me by noon today, but as expected didn’t! :mad:

I’ve just phoned them and they claimed the disconnection was nothing to do with me complaining yesterday, but because they couldn’t take the payment. This despite the fact that the letter concerning this only arrived yesterday and they accept they shouldn’t have been taking the payment in the first place! :rolleyes:

They did reconnect me within minutes of this conversation.

They now also admit the last conversation concerning the pervious problem was 27th June and not July as they insisted yesterday and they claim that only 1 month free was offered not 4 months. So, I’ve asked them to e-mail me a copy of the conversation, so I can prove otherwise. :)

Bastards! :mad:

RESULT! :D

What a fucking result, after 50 minutes on the phone tonight, I finally have received the MAC code to allow me to change provider AND confirmation that they have dropped the £130+ contract cancellation fee! :D

I am freed from Orange! :D x 10000000000000000000000 :D
