boot menu of the live cd appears fine, I select the live CD / install option, it goes peach in line with the ubuntu default gui, but after about 15 mins of thinking the screen goes black and nothing happens.
Sounds like the graphical installer had problems with your graphics card... You could've run it with the no graphics install... Personally Xp is probably best for a laptop...
