'Open House London' this weekend...

Yes, it's that time of year again where the public get to poke around well designed buildings and nose in the houses of those wealthy enough to employ an architect to build their own place...

http://www.londonopenhouse.org/london/home.html

Always worth trying to get out to one or two of these - I managed Swiss Re, The Ark and a couple of houses last year...well worth it.

Oh this is something I've been meaning to do for fucking years! Hopefully will have the energy, want to see that big hotel jobby near euston & the mason central hall & various other bits & bobs.

why what is this clashing with?

i seem to remember last time some people just couldnt be arsed to get up...

We did Aspley House/Wellington memorial (at Hyde Park Corner) last time, plus Westminster Hall and a couple of others. Very good, but not a patch on the Crossness pumping station ( in Bexley) or Kirkaldies testing museum (Southwark) we've been to in the past.

Recommendations welcome.

Hello! There is a London forum for this kind of thing!

Did you see me posting about Bristol Open Doors weekend in this forum?

No, you did not.

Did this thread get moved then, because when I saw it yesterday, it was here in the London forum?

Initially thought "no, can't be bothered with Open House, too busy" but I'm tempted by the Freemasons Hall.

I suppose I could buy the pdf thingy online and have a look

I don't think you have to pay for it, you can just search here.

You used to have to pay for it, was almost four quid, but I've just searched for the Freemasons Hall, and printed it off... so I guess it's changed.

Yeah, I've got a list of all the buildings here now :)

there's a modern house in denmark hill which i reckon we'll start off with, since it's walking distance from us (7 stories mews). anyone got any other recommendations for south london??

edit: the brunel engine house museum is interesting, if anyone's in the vicinity!

I posted this in the wrong thread..

"The Gothic Bath House in Bexley is worth going to see.

IIRC, it used to be in the grounds of some local "big house" but the land was sold off over time and it now sits in someone's back garden! What a back garden it is though, I'm dead jealous that they own something like that."

Have just printed off loads of things to see over the weekend, Central London things for tomorrow, and more local things for Sunday. To think this weekend was going to be a quiet one!

I'd be up for a tour. Anyone got a plan? Maggot you got anything?
How about doing a few City things like the Lloyds Building and Great Eastern Hotel. Then onto City Hall and the Thames Festival .

I shall suggest a meeting place if anyone's up for it.

Sounds like a plan. We have a mission to Tottenham Court Road tomorrow, which would bring us close to a lot of the buildings listed in Open House. Go on Maggot, be all masterful and assertive.

Ok then, lets meet at the Blackfriars pub between 1.30 and 2 tomorrow.

I'm not planning on going near TCR tomorrow but if you do, I recommend visiting Senate House.

Of course you're welcome! It's opposite BlackFriars Station (actually called the Black Friar IIRC)

I'm waiting for a text from a friend about his birthday party tomorrow, but I'll post back on here when I know what he's doing.

Could you bring a central London A-Z with you. I've only got a huge one and I don't fancy carrying it around all day.

No reply from my friend, so I'll probably be there. Won't be able to hang about til late, but should be able to visit a couple of buildings with you guys :)
