Onyx - crashes Mac

Upon the recommendation of one of those Mac clone dudes in the Apple store, I downloaded and installed Onyx to help run my system better. Sadly it's had the adverse effect.

Some of the feedback at version tracker suggested that the latest beta version is unstable, and so I went for the last non-beta version. I've since had to take it off as it's caused a few problems - the very exact thing it's supposed not to do!

Cheers, mac clone dude.

And so...

I have two specific problems that I now need to address. First my Mac won't auto sleep. From System Preferences I've got put to sleep after 15 mins selected and checked the put to sleep where possible box. All that happens after 15 mins is that the screen saver kicks in, but the sleep light in the right hand corner of the display is still alert. I can only get it flashing when I physically put the Mac to sleep myself using the Apple logo in the top left of the screen.

Secondly I just can't run Xtorrent since I installed and removed Onyx - which is bad :( . It just crashes after about 30 secs. I reinstalled Xtorrent, but no joy.

Both of these issues only occurred since I installed Onyx. Is there some kind of System Restore facility equivalent for Macs?

Cheers

Obviously not a regular question then ;)

Anyway - looking around and it seems that a complete re-install of OS X should put me back to where I want to be.

But...

Will I lose my files / apps etc / settings etc?

Are you running Tiger or Leopard?

If it is the latter, have you not your time machine running?

If it is the former and you want to do a rebuild, you can throw the disk in and specify a "Re-install the OS but please keep all of my documents programs and settings etc" option.

It will take a while but I have used it very successfully before.

Obviously you want to remove all traces of Onyx before you start!

There is also a little app, the name of which escapes me, which you can run to thoroughly clean/remove all files and folders associated with a specific app.

I am sure someone will be along to tell you what it is shortly!
