One Song that unite us all ( an urban LOTR )

How about a nice bit of Chas N Dave? Can't beat those crafty cockernees.

(I'm getting the feeling this could be an impossible ask.)

I can't do Kate Bush - mty voice won't go that high

Specials - Ghost Town

:) I wail along to Kate Bush all the time, in the safety of my kitchen with the door tightly shut,, do a damn good impression if i do say so myself :p

Johnny Cash – Hurt
Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet
Clash - Guns of Brixton
Undertones - Teenage Kicks,
Althea & Donna - Uptown Top Ranking
Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence
Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Ruts - In a Rut
Buzzcocks - Harmony In My Head
Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive
Kylie – Can’t Get You Out Of My Head
Source ft Candi Staton - U Got The Love
Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant
Specials - Gangsters

If RB wants to put these (plus those I've missed) into a poll then we can get voting. Should we clarify that this is not necessarily our favourite song (mine is New Dawn Fades by Joy Division) but one which we "as a WHOLE" agree is really fucking spanking? :)

Has anyone said I Fought The Law yet? I'd have the Clash version obviously but you could have Bobby Fuller, Bryan Adams, Green Day, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Hank Williams Jr, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, The Grateful Dead, Stray Cats...

"Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft"

The Carpenters version.

"In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing"

:D :D :D :D :D

Simon and Garfunkel looks suspiciously out of place in that list.

Gloria Gaynor is for the laydeez and therfore not of universal appeal.

Most of today's kids don't know their Ruts from their Elbow

And the Buzzcocks' most popular ditty was 'Ever Fallen In Love'

What of those who came of age in the 90s - wot no Stone Roses? Happy Mondays? Primal Scream?

Hip hop seems underrepresented - NWA? Beastie Boys? Run DMC?

Release the hounds!
sorry, but it is dreadful... it's one of those songs people love because it's a 'classic', not because of any musical merit - i think it's a tragedy that candi's abiding legacy is such a plodding, uninteresting number, rather than the amazing early material she released.

oh, and it's about jesus.

I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't like at least one Bob Marley and the Wailers track, but so far I'd go for Rock the Kasbah.

And maybe suggest Fools Gold. Both cross the dance/rock divide.

I like a handful of Marley tracks, but i don't they're popular choices because i think he's pretty poor on the whole.

Rock The Casbah is wack. Fool's Gold is dull after the first 3 spins
