One off the demotion zone

2 games in hand though , but at the bottom of the table that doesn't always mean that much , and considering one fo them is against Rovers which I suspect Oxford will lose it only leaves you 1 point clear with 1 game in hand :p

Non-League football isn't that bad anyway , things could be worse at least your not going into administartion or moving to Milton Keynes !

I'd rather Rushden went down to be honest. Normally I'd want Torquay to stay up but my bro reminded me the other day that they've got that twat Atkins in charge so I couldn't give a shit if they go down :D

And possibly also to football teams.....
Nope, you're thinking of relegation.

I've got mixed feelings about O*f*rd's plight. On the one hand I can't stand them and the thought of them dropping out of the league fills my heart with gladness. On the other, I'd like us to renew acquaintances with them again next season. You can't beat a good derby.

I tend to think of relegation as being from one division to another and demotion being to a different league. Mind you with the Conference effectively being a fifth division, it's a fine distinction these days.

Torquay won four-nil last night, wiping out most of Oxford's advantage in goal difference (as well as the trivial matter of catching us on points). However, they have to go to Carlisle on Saturday. Top v second bottom and a thousand-mile round trip....

theres a few teams 2 points ahead of you ( 3 i think ) so a win in the next 2 games could see you safe !

Last day (6th May)

I think so: one win, I think. If Leyton Orient have nothing to play for on the last day it'll probably be all right...

There's a strong chance that Orient will be playing for retaining automatic promotion, as opposed to playoff.

This Saturday (29th)

Forgotten about that little obstacle for them.

We have the small matter of Wrexham away, not easy either.

Will need to check on who Rushden are playing ...

Carlisle 1 Torquay 2

Oxford look fucked , a win next week should see you safe as there are 5 teams 2 points above you and I'd have thought one of those would have to lose .

Although Orient will be fighting for automatic promotion so it will be a tough game . Looks like Oxford are going down !

I agree :( :(

If we stay up now, it'll be a semi-miracle ..... Orient NEED to win next Saturday to retain automatic promotion, even a draw will be enough for them if Grimsby lose I think.

We HAVE to win, no other choice. And even then, if all the other 5 above us either win or draw, we're still fucked :(

<ETA> Actually thats bollocks. If we win and Stockport, on minus 21 (we're on minus 13) only draw, we survive .... the other four teams above us on 51 points are too close on goal difference to us for anything to be relied on at all ....

We need to win, anyway, and against Orient ..... </ETA>

..... hello Dagenham, Grays, Woking ...

Is the gulf between league two and the conference all that big these days anyway? Just think of it as the fifth division, you can always come back up.

plus it's 2 up 2 down now (not a lot of help in your current position i know:( ) but it makes it a little easier to return, loads of clubs have come back

It's slender comfort at the moment ... but thanks for that, we may need to base next season's hopes on it ...

Not very, it's just the utter humiliation of getting kicked out of League Two at all, and especially while Accrington Stanley come back up. They went out of the League the same year (1962) that Oxford first came in.

It's horribly symmetrical historically, and that alone may further reduce our team's confidence next Saturday ....

Just look at Carlisle, in league one two years after going down to the conference...

doncaster did it as well, and weren't far off another promotion this season, in fact they can still mathematically go up with one game to go

If Oxford went down, would they be the biggest city in England without a team in the football league? A situation like that wouldn't last very long, there's quite a bit of money in Oxford, and some flamboyant local millionaire is sure to want to be a saviour...
