One of the great movies on today!

As always you are managing to be as ignorant as you are offensive. Kingsley is Anglo-Indian.
I am managing to be ignorant. I am sorry. I didn't realise he was part Indian.

He still did black up for the role though.

He looked the part though didn't he?

Which just leaves the jew bit...
Don't even try it.

I have heard in interviews with Mr Kingsley that he was part Jewish.

I read now that it was his failing by the fact that it was his mother who was part Jewish.

Yes, he's jewish by the matrilineal descent - but what on earth has that to with his acting ability? Why did you pick on his jewishness as well when you'd already made the point about him being white?

He has a slight semitic look, of which I don't think Gandhi had.

I think that the only qualifications for Kingsley to play Gandhi was the fact that he was thin and had a shaven head. Blacking such a man up does not, in my opinion, make him look like Gandhi.

With respect to Gandhi, Kingsley is far too handsome in features.

You genuinely aren't worth the bother are you? Nonetheless, he was thin and had a shaved head because the role demanded it - it's part of acting- changing your appearance and that (a jew speciality remarks harrison). Bascially you think he got the role because he loooked like Gandhi but that he shouldn't have got it because jews don't look like Gandhi.

You are a marvel.

I don't think he did look like Gandhi. Maybe an unpopular view, but I don't think he did. The 2 photos Orang showed earlier do nothing to prove it.

oh ffs. :D

Harrison. please answer me. are you on a wind up? :D

edit: even if he looked more like Jim fuckin Davidson than he did Gandhi, and still played Gandhi. so what? acting is about more than just looking like the character you're playing. i don't get any of your points Harrison. but you're making me laugh.

so acting is now simply an ability to perfectly replicate someone's physical appearance?
But he looks nothing like him.

Had Bob Hoskins had been blacked up to play Idi Amin, would that not have been a bit off?

nah, i'm not having it

you're definitely on a wind up - and making me laugh loads :D :D

You're giving him an easy get out here foo...
What's there to get out of? I can see the implications of racism in your posts, but unlike your implications that I was a paedophile in one of your other posts, I have not taken it so seriously.

what do you mean, he looks 'nothing like him'. While not a direct fit - which after all isn't required - i'd argue without fear of contradiction that of the actings working in English at that point who would have been sufficiently talented to pick up the role, Kingsley was by far the finest likeness.

Yeah, he was better cast than say Larry Olivier for the role. But there is a number of fine Indian actors who could have taken to the role with more passion.

I found many of the mannerisms in the film a little, dare I say it, Michael Batesish. But that is my opinion. If you found it worthy of an Oscar, so be it. I am entitled to my opinion, without questions pointing to my intentions.

The film would not have got the money to be made with those fine actors that i'm sure you're very familiar with.

Spend lot of time with Gandhi did you?

i thought it was a poor film ultimately, but this has nothing to do with KIngsley failing in his duties to be a perfect facsimile for Ghandhi.
