One Impossible Thing Before Breakfast: Your Top 5 Artists of All Time

When I was about 13, reeling off my top 5 bands/singers/whatever would have been easy. But the older I get, the more ridiculous this idea becomes, and fluctuates on a daily basis. My PCs got over 10k tracks on it alone FFS, and that's a fraction of those that I've not gotten around to loading up to it for some reason or another.

But, in the spirit of the title, I'll have a stab at it. Like I said, this will probably be another list entirely tomorrow

To make it slightly easier, I'll limit it a bit:

    1. No classical/baroque/spanish guitar/etc
    2. No pure DJs etc
    3. Nothing pre-60s
    4. No Stairway
    5. Anything else I think of

Crispy has kindly agreed to issue a 24 hour ban to anyone in violation of these.

    In no particular order

    • Eminem
    • Beck
    • Afghan Whigs
    • A-ha
    • Catherine Wheel
    • Die Antwoord

Mine have all ended up coming from the 1st five letters of the alphabet, as that's as far as I got through my catalogue before realising I could be here all fucking day...

And the Urbzan group-think is mandated to meet any intentional attempts to choose deliberately obscure or eclectic selections with appropriate ridicule and scorn.

ETA: Typo in the title - off to a good start...

SpookyFrank Ridin' a Stutz Bearcat, Jim

'Artists' implies 'no DJ's' so that rule is redundant.
  3. SpookyFrank

SpookyFrank Ridin' a Stutz Bearcat, Jim

    Tom Waits
    Stevie Wonder
    Talking Heads
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Super Furry Animals

Most of the jazz stuff I like is pre-1960 so I guess that's all out. If I'm in a melancholy mood I'd have to switch Talking Heads out for Neil Young.

Awww, man. Did you have to?

Now I'm sitting in the dark at 2am listening to Selected Ambient Works.

ETA: What can I pilfer off TPB that's similarly good for listening to in the dark at 2am? So far I've come up with The Orb, Orbital, Chemical Bros, Battles, Boards of Canada, Klaxons, Underworld, Future Sound of London....

    Any other suggestions?

    *derails own thread massively*
