One hit wonders we have known and loved

And the Flaming Lips claim their cover of Tubthumping was a tribute from one one-hit-wonder band to another. :D
The follow-up, 'Amnesia', got to number ten. :p

Napoleon XIV - 'They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha'
Goombay Dance Band - 'Seven Tears'
Renee & Renato - 'Save Your Love'

Same year as The Tornado's Telstar!

I bought both when they were released.

What about....

Monster Mash. Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt Kickers.
Hello Stranger Barbara Lewis.
Kites. Simon Dupree And The Big Sound.
Big Time Operator. Zoot Moneys Big Roll Band (I think the last was a hit anyway)

Henry Gross "Shannon" (sad song about a dog)

I loved this one and coudn't remember what it was called. I badgered people for years saying "what's that song about the dog that swims out to sea and drowns and the bloke hopes she finds something........just like the one on our back yard, or something".
Wolfies boss identified it a couple of years ago  :D

'The Winker's Song' (Misprint) by Ivor Biggun.

A minor hit in 1978, and apparently still used for emptying Ibiza clubs at closing time.

Psychotic Reaction-Count Five.
The Eggplant That Eat Chicago- Dr Wests Medicine, Show and Junk band. This was a hit in the states in 1966 and I think the lead singer was Norman Greebaum, later of 'Spirit In The Sky' fame.

A better version IMHO was done by a band called Ozo - I believe it was released as a single by them - it featured on their only album called "Listen To The Buddha" which was inexplicably never released on CD.
One day I will get my vinyl copy digitised ...

ahem - Since Yesterday - Strawberry Switchblade

third time i've mentioned them in seven days

I *heart* Strawberry Switchblade. They played a Peel session on 6Music the other day and they're selling the album on import in HMV for £32 quid.

Have we done Nena's "99 Luftballons" yet? Top tune.

Rose Macdowell can be found layering her luscious, decadent vocals over a few Death in June tracks, including one or two on Brown Book, for example. She's also on Current 93's "Christ and the Pale Queens Mighty In Sorrow". I think we can safely say she decided to take the underground pill after her taste of pop stardom.

Bass-o-matic: "Fascinating Rhythm"
E-zee Posse & MC Kinky: "Everything Starts With An E"
Dee-lite: "Groove Is In The Heart"

Basically, any hyphenated one-hit wonder is  by me...

Oh Yes :)

I first encountered that on a compilation tape of 60's garage band music that someone in Brighton gave me called "Magnetic Orgasm" or something similar.
