For the vast majority of people recording at home this is simply not true.

Explain...
It's easier to run the guitar through the PC for most people, than mic up a tube amp and fanny about etc.
(Imo of course).

For most home recording you'll get far better results using an amp sim than you will trying to record an amp. Most home users simply haven't got the space and/or mics to record an decent amp well.

Also, the volume at home as well makes a difference, IMHO. I can't even turn-up my Marshall practice amp to a 'decent' overdriven tone before the neighbours get angsty.
