Island in the stream.
I am farting about with the Behringer K2, a Korg MS-20 clone. It was used quite a lot in the 70’s and 80’s and then Daft Punk rinsed it. I also make music on my iPad and there’s an embarrassment of riches on there for really stupid money. The K2 cost about £270.

I’ve got about 20 ish synths on my iPad, including the amazing Animoog. Another one by Moog, the Model D. Sunrizer, which is really popular. Erm, the iMS20, which has pads on it that can have different effects on the X and Y axes, making my face smile a lot. FRMS, granular madness that is deeper than the Mariana Trench. KQ Dixie, which costs a fiver and is a brilliant DX7 clone. The list goes on and on. Altogether, they cost me about half of the price of the K2. Mad really. I use an Arturia Keystep midi keyboard to play them all.

You?

Oh cool! I will definitely check that out right now. :)

I know the 707 and the 101 A bit. They seem great. People always want everything from a groovebox type thing, Deep instruments a fantastic sequencer and loads of outs etc. I am really into a modular groovebox app on the iPad called Drambo. Have you heard of it?

Just listened to Astral Social Club. Really liked it, I love layered grainy stuff like that, it’s great for listening to really loud and just letting it wash over you. I’ll work my through the rest. Is the label your full-time job?

(hit me up if you want download codes for anything)

Nah mate. I'll pay but that's really kind of you.

I don't know how labels work these days. It used to be quite a lot of energy and time and money to get one release off the ground. But that was back before t'internet.

I feel old. :D

I think streaming has basically killed music as a money making venture for 99% of people - everyone just does it weekends and evenings for the love these days. But on the plus side, it is a lot easier and cheaper to release stuff than it used to be.

Just listened to some more Astral Social Club. Really inspiring, whilst a little annoying. I thought I had made up my own genre of music and now I find out that not only is someone making it before me but it’s much better than mine.

Neil is a legend tbf, no shame there at all. That's one whole massive rabbit-hole to disappear down too, theres... a lot of music he's been involved with over the last few decades...

Have you got Synth1 for iOS? It's a free synth by Audiokit and is really nice. Also, the Korg Chaosolator may still be free.

I've got a few. Most recent got last year, a Korg Minilogue XD. Need to do more recording with it. Often just playing it late at night on headphones, massive ambient sounds. The filter can growl. Nice hands on quality controls. Really great for the money.

you can hear it on some stuff at:

I have indeed. I have a few by Korg including that one. There’s a lot of stuff on the iPad now like Poly 2, or Samplr that’s basically a whole new instrument. StepPolyArp, Xequencer apps like that are rabbit holes in an app. Drambo, that I posted above, Is going to make a massive difference to access to making music. It’s just a huge amount of tools in one app. Effects, a sequencer, different kinds of synths and there’s a community on patchstorage.com who make new synths And effects for it every day. The Digitakt is a really expensive piece of hardware that people are selling because they find access to the same functionality via Drambo.

There’s a long way to go with mobile music making and, obviously, it’s horses for courses but it’s really exciting right now imo.

Looks great! Looks like you’re an Electribe fan, there’s a sampler and a synth, isn’t there? The M-Audio has a very similar remote to a Sky TV box, interesting.

In my old house I had the use of these:

The Moog is a fucking beast.
