my mate invited me over to watch the 'housemates' enter the house.

I had to muster all of my tact and civility not to say that the program is purely for cretins.

It was quite difficult to explain why I wouldn't be coming over to watch big brother without pointing out that watching it is akin to admitting that you are in fact a brain dead sheep who will follow whatever purile drivel the media throws at you.

You know I don't think I quite managed it, cause he got a bit uppity by the end of the conversation.

Still what do you expect inviting people round to watch fucking big brother when you know they don't own a TV cause they think its full of mindless shit meant purely to distract people from whats really going on around them.

ive never got the appeal of regular "big brother" at all
..ive had freinds(some who are serious gay intellectuals..)into it EVERY YEAR from when it first started and from what ive seen over the years (admittedly not that much!! i cant stomach much of it...have seen been forced to watch it at freinds flats from time to time)
the participants seem to be soooo empty headed/dull/conventional etc i can only think friends are watching cos they think its camp
or cos they fancy people on it..?
i just do not get it at all, and i never get a straight answer as to why someone who isnt a brainwashed thickie running on the hamster wheel of life would get addicted to this crap

...celeb big brother i have watched bits of cos i was curious about germaine greer,george galloway,pete burns etc.....i can see the appeal here far more, cos the participants can sometimes at least be interesting/intelligent people

ditto "the apprentice" or corry(which can at least be camp/funny)

what am i missing with BB?

2 years ago I was dragged into watching BB, but then they had funny people in the house, last year's was awful. Without someone egging me to watch and pointing out the good character and bringing me up to speed I can't watch it. In fact can't watch won't watch.

Thew trouble is that kind of reality tv is everywhere.The Apprentice is a prime example of a BB type offshoot.what I dont like about it anymore is the fact it portrays living in society as being about competing with other people.Its inherently reactionary whilst ticking all the boxes on having women,gays and ethnic minorities in the programmes.Which is probably how C4 justify it to OFTEL.

Can I play the devil advocate here. To me there are worse more irritating programs. Those american sitcoms like friends or will and grace are hell for me.

eh? why is it "heartbreaking"????? plenty of people i respect to the fullest indulge it shite that i would never contemplate sticking my nose in, but i still respect them all the same.. i personally (crime of all crimes!!) abhor football, and find spending an entire afternoon watching your team lose miserably a totally ridiculous concept, but i would never judge my friends who enjoy that kind of stuff as being "wankers".
