On a Rugger Tip! - RWC 2007

Predictions:

* Ireland to fail to get out of their group after losses to the frogs and Argentina
* A thoroughly demoralised Wales having lost both of their warm up games lose to Canada and fail to get out of theirs. Jenkins to be sacked.
* Scotland to lose to NZ and Italy and fail to get out of their group
* England to get found out badly against the Saffas when they realise you can't bulldoze your way to victory against a team as big as your own, and that they don't have a plan B. Knocked out against the free running Aussies in the QFs.
*ABs to win the whole thing at a canter after a shaky semi-final.

Warning: My predictions are almost always wholly inaccurate.

Banter: England are a bunch of route 1 braying Julians who play props at 12 and 13 and never move the ball wide. Strettle would have been redundant whether he was at the WC or not

I used to like you. :(

Ireland to go out in the quarters against NZ after beating the argies in the group. This means that, for all the hype about paddy rugby, we are as good as we ever were, i.e. not that good in the greater scheme of things.

I'm off to Marseille for the quarter final weekend & have tickets for Sunday - probably Wales v S Africa.

Predictions: Very pissed for 3 days and a battering on the pitch for Jenkins' mob.

Cool. If England manage to surprise South Africa in the pool game you'll have a cracker on your hands

Predictions, the Irish beat the frogs and the argies, the kiwis choke against the french, england will just about get out of their group. The aussies or french will win it.

Teams to qualify from the pools: (in no order)

Pool A:
England
South Africa

Pool B:
Australia
Wales

Pool C:
New Zealand
Italy

Pool D:
France
Argentina

QFs:
Australia v England Winner Australia
NZ v Argentina Winner NZ
South Africa v Wales Winner South Africa
France v Italy Winner France

SFs:
Australia v NZ Winner NZ
South Africa v France Winner (tough one to call, but with "esprit du cloche") France

Final:
France v NZ Winner New Zealand..

There you have it.. It's the AB's to lose..

Lots of anti saes posts.

Lots of posts about how good the AB's look before they choke again. probably against saffies or france this time in the final.

I like the Aussies. Well organised, big, good leadership and crucially no pressure.
I quite fancy them to beat the ABs again in the semis. And I would laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

I've got a ticket for the Cardiff QF and would love to see NZ vs Fr or NZ vs Ire. I think both teams will beat the Argies, the Irish showed over the weekend that they're up for a ruck, and they've got more out wide. They may even beat the French.

The Welsh will get killed. England, I just can't call, but suspect they'll get beaten by the Saffers and then Australia in the QF.

Tomorrow's game will tell a lot as to where England are. They are fuckin huge up front and nobody will beat them there. The back row lacks a bit of class and there is a lack of talent and speed behind the scrum.

I reckon they are capable of beating anybody on the day though, it will be interesting

Speaking as an England fan, I think our prospects over the next two or three years are quite good, certainly compared to the depressing crock of shit we've served up for the past four years. I like the look of some of our new backs (a few of whom aren't actuallty going to the WC as they're a bit green) and I'm optimistic for the first time since Australia 2003.

But I think it's come a bit too early, so a side like SA or NZ who can gain parity up front (and especially at the breakdown, as you say our back row is dubious) I think will score late tries (look at the Charvis cut through, if he can do that then what about McCaw or So'alaio?) Joe Worsley's offload skills are not going to win a World Cup SF (look at Dallaglio's offload to Wilkinson for Robinson's try in the last World Cup final for sheer class)...

But it will be interesting. And Wilkinson is looking fit as a fiddle (once he gets his kicking boots back on, which he will) and he is a world class match winner still.

I'd have Dallaglio and Catt in my team all day. Keep it tight, play the channels and the percentages.

As for us, we'll get murdered in the scrum by more or less everyone. The loss of that platform will fuck us.

Having said that we'll have enough in the tank fitness wise and skill overall to beat the Argies easily. The France game will be 50:50 I think. They will be under huge pressure, we won't play with the fear we did in the 6 nations. Can't wait!

Good to see all the English posters on this tread. It's better to travel in hope than expectation. I'm Welsh so I've abandoned hope. C'mon Ireland.

no?

Doesn't look like France and Ireland should have too much to fear from the Argentinians based on this performance so far.

did you see the second half?

the only thing that cost the pumas the match was their indiscipline

the same sort of indiscipline that persuaded them to rip alan quinlan's shoulder out AFTER he'd scored a try against them when we were down in australia

they're filthy cheating bastards

but they're a damn good team on their day!

That was decent performance by Wales. The pack played well especially the back row and the the defence and scrummaging were solid. I'm not sure about the hooker or Alfie in midfield. The first 15 are OK but there's not a lot in reserve. What's happening to Shane Williams?
On their second half performance I think that Argentina will cause Ireland and France a few problems. There will be a lot of attrition after playing them that's for sure.

Scrummaging was sound, Hair bear bunch showed how good they are against one of the best scrummaging front rows in the world. Line out still abysmal, if Rees can't find his jumpers keep it safe and hit the front of the line, and if that means the prop at the very front of lineout so be it. Back row were very slack at the set piece and left far too much space, a team like France next week is going to pour through that gap like water.

Hook was Hook, hopefully now jenkins will see the folly in trying to manufacture a place for his love child and drop Jones from squad, admit to the entire Welsh nation he was wrong and bring Gav into the squad. Alun Wyn back to usual form, please note what number he wore today Gareth-5, that's right he is a second row not a back row forward ya Turk twat. Backs still need sharpening up. Hopefully Ickle will be fit so we can get Alfie back to FB. Today Alfie was suspect a few times in his decision making and hard and committed as he is he ain'y got much left in the locker imho. Still think we are missing a big ball carrier, why oh why oh why won't the monkey pick Cockbain?

All said and done we beat a team ranked 5 in the world. Score flattered us, but we held on, by the skin of our teeth.

Oh yeah, and the chimpa gets to keep his job, til next week atleast!!

Shouldn't have posted at half time!

Still think Ireland and France will have enough, but you're right about attrition.
