OMG. I quite like Keane's "Everything's Changing" and Coldplay's "Yellow"

Parachutes is actually a good album. Or it was when it very first came out...

It's what it spawned that was utter dirge, all the other similar bands and subsequent Coldplay albums.

The 'Blue Room' EP is good too.

Keane are bollocks though, only song I like is that fairly recent one.. 'Spiralling'. Sounds totally different from thier other stuff and is nay a bad dancy party tune.

I'm t'other way round. I really don't like Coldplay, but Hopes and Fears is one of those records I have to be honest and admit I rather like. :o

If I had to choose a Keane song I'd go for Somewhere Only We Know.

When Parachutes came out I did a roadtrip from Nashville to Austin with a girl who insisted on playing Parachutes on loop just to piss me off. I quite liked Yellow by the end of it.

Parachutes was a good album. When I listen to it now I can almost smell the cruddy hostel I was living in when it came out
There are some good songs there.
I can hum a few keane songs but find them unremarkable.
And don't tease that man about his head, it's mean :(

Parachutes is brilliant.

I remember an aquaintance of mine who was raving about them, well before it came out, she'd heard an advance copy. She loved it. Now - she's a very successful DJ in her own right and has totally airbrushed that out. She groups them with U2 and denies ever enjoying their music. Go figure.

Good music's good music. Lotta wankers out there.

Good music is good music.

None of this is good music.

There are a lot of wankers out there.

Try sticking parachutes on thru spotify. I defy anyone who knows anything about music to not be able to recognise what well written tunes are on there.

Same goes with Keane. Undeniably well written melodies. I ain't a fan by any stretch but I can recognise the guy's a good songwriter.

There go my hipster points.

:D

Any hipster points I may ever have had evaporated the night before last when I was in a restaurant, heard Level 42's 'Lessons In Love' and thought (for the first time) how brilliant and Earth Wind and Fire-like it was.

:o:o:o

They're both great writers. Of the dullest of dull, bland, unchallenging drivel.

The first two Blue Nile albums are works of absolute beauty.

+100

I mentally bracket them with Talk Talk, which is high praise in my book. I get the impression that Peter Gabriel's a fan too, considering how So turned out a year after A Walk Across the Rooftops was released. :hmm:

There's a lot worse out there than Coldplay's Yellow - such as anything by Keane. :)

I just heard both songs in the last half hour and have to own up. I rather liked them both.

Bollocks to hipsterism. I really like Hopes and Fears (not much the second, but will buy the third eventually), and after watching a live concert of Coldplay circa 2000, I kind of understood why they used to hang with Ash - it was... well, good. Hardly edgy or memorable, but they had a fairly decent sound. Their downfall came with label pressures and that knob of their singer hooking up with one of the dullest characters on fucking Earth.

As for Everybody's Changing, it has a great piano riff, and I still plan on doing a noisier guitar version of it. Can't say that of Yellow - that song seemed boring to me right at first listen.
