Close your eyes and say it as you breathe in and out. Om as in home. You may be suprised by what starts to happen...

Some monks chanting it at 417 mhz -

It’s not nonsense though editor . There’s plenty of good scientific research that supports the use of Om to bring calm and focus to the mind.

It’s not hippy either. It’s much much older than that. You could say the hippies appropriated it.

And I thought we were trying to be more welcoming to new members these days?

I was of the understanding that the repeated chanting of certain sounds can have interesting effects on the mind, but it doesnt necessarily matter what the sound is. Although given what parts of the mind are trying to be quietened down, its probably important that the sound isnt a word with meaning.

Not a very snappy thread title though. And this is a video.

Yer. Gregorian type chanting serves a similar purpose, as does “om mani padme hum” and the Hare Krishna circular chanting. Wiccans use circle chants too.

But Om is supposed to have a particular resonance.

British Druids use all the vowels to make a chant. It certainly seems to get you into a differently head space.

Sure. But if I were a new member and a mod - the head mod, no less - added the word “nonsense” to my thread title I think I’d probably take a huge step back.*

    Your call of course :)

    * eta especially since it’s not nonsense.

My objection was the fact that the thread title contained just 2 letters. And the post could be spammy. But to please you and in my endless quest for Mod perfection, I'll change the title once again.
