and this makes a difference to it being a complete waste of money?

so if it's a s popular as the other tracks sem to be ( according to sigmand ) then it's a waste of money . If thats seriously all your argument against this velodrome then it's a bit shit since you have no fucking idea of how popular or well used the track might be , and whats your opinion on the BMX and mountain bike track being built with the velodrome , or is that not a waste of money because local people will be able to use it

There is no Hackney bus station as such. I presume you are referring to the 2 bus garages in Waterden Road which are indeed in the CPO

Yup, the Waterden Rd bus garage is the one referred to.

Mayor Ken's got a letter in the Observer today, refuting this 'grand-each' story. He says the cost will be no more than 38p a week on every bill for the next 12 years.

*Does maths*

237.12 each over that time.

"as popular as the other tracks seem to be" -> they're busy among a small number of people, not popular, which is different. There's a remote controlled car track in Crystal Palace that's very busy but it's not a popular sport.

There's already a mountain bike track in that part of London and it's being demolished for the olympics.

A BMX track is more accessible than cycle track racing because ... lots of people ride BMXs and you can buy them cheap at enthusiast level! That's just not the case for track cycling.

It's not like whingeing about cricket just because you like football. I fucking *hate* football and think cycling is great, it's where I spend all my money. I also know that football is a million times popular than track cycling - which is a niche within a niche - so if you were pretending that what you were doing was trying to get more people involved in sport, then it's football that ought to get the money.

but if the track will be used a lot then whats the problem ! I can understand not wanting a facility that will be empty after the olympics but this doesn't seem like that will happen .
If you want sport facilities then don't you agree there should be facilities for lots of different sports so people have a choice , otherwise it will be like the government saying "you can only play football because that whats most popular"

<maths pedantry mode> Actually it's more like £322.50 after compounding is taken into account* </maths pedantry mode>
<tabloid headline mode>A Swingeing 36% Increase on Official (your) Figures!!! </tabloid headline mode> ;)

*(assuming a constant 5% interest rate)

It may be 38p at the moment, but we in this country cannot do major projects either on time or on budget. I give you the Dome, the Scottish Parliment, Wembley, and the Jubilee Line Extention among others.

All late and massively over budget. Indeed, can anyone give an example of a major project finished on time and within budget?

£275 buys you this

track ready, nothing needed other than a helmet.

heres a link for a shop that sells them. If £275 is too much you can at present hire a track bike along with two hours track time and coaching for £15. The new velodrome will have similar hiring arrangements in place.

so is £275 'enthusiast' level enough for you?

I suppose its popular when you decide its popular eh? Whats your threshhold number for deciding when its a suitable time to build new facilites? Do you indeed have any clue what you're talking about? If you saw the public meetings when Herne Hill was locked out or read the south london press or indded if you've ever visited Herne Hill recently you'd understand how you're coming across as an clueless, opinionated, bleating stuck record on this subject,

For the last fucking time it is NOT being demolsihed for the olympics, it is being cleared to make way for the East London Velodpark which will encorporate a new MTB track, BMX track, 1.5 km road circuit and velodrome - all of which was planned before the olympic bid was announced.

but...did you oppose the building of the original Eastway circuit as well? Come on, lets have some consistency from you on this, the original eastway was built on green space with GLC (Taxpayers!!!) money - were you against it too?

in the case of clays lane - which has been forcibly taken over by peabody trust, and now at the non-democratic whim of the housing corporation - a long-standing community is due to be split up. as one coop worher said in the film, 'are they going to build a new estate for us all to move into?'. of course not; but then again, why not?

Hello again, and sorry to bump an old thread. Where are the residential areas in the proposed 'Olympic Park' or whatever it's called? I went for a cycle round there this morning and, it has to be said, the amount of residential housing wasn't striking. I'm not saying they're not there, I'm genuinely curious as to where they are.

i'd be very interested to see how that goes, I live around the corner, and i've worked with tenants on the clapton park estate nearby, there could be fireworks at that meeting..

To discuss the LDA CPO for the area off Lea Bridge there is a meeting at Hackney Town Hall Council Chambers 6pm on Monday 12 December. Meeting is called by the Lea Bridge councillors- but I assume the Kings Park councillors will have been invited.

Were you at the Chatsworth Road Festival on Saturday? There was a stall put up by a group calling itself the E5 Residents Association opposing the CPO. They are based in Hillstowe Road and really should not be calling themselves the E5 Residents Association as I guess 99.95% of the E5 population have never heard of them. It will be interesting to see what they think of Travellers possibly moving into their backyard.

Yes the meeting promises fireworks.
