McDs didn't 'win' the contract - they are an IOC global partner sponsor so the London 2012 team had no choice about them being there.

"Global partner sponsor", eh?

That'll have cost them a few bob.

Did I say it was ok? No, just pointed out that your comment was incorrect regarding the role London had in 'choosing' McDs to be the primary caterer.

fair point. does raise the q about it being a "LONDON" olympics tho, eh? n i didn't hear (natch) anyone from the oda or loc or whatever questioning it.

what else is being imposed by the corrupt suits at the ioc?

(genuine q)

And then there’s those with kids aged between 5-12 who see the look of excitement and awe in their children’s faces, and understand the opportunities this represents for education in general but health, diet, exercise, social inclusion, and social enfranchisement, in particular.

are you serious?? those billions COULD be spent on " .. opportunities this represents for education in general but health, diet, exercise, social inclusion, and social enfranchisement, in particular..." the olympics does nothing but waste that money

all over the country we have sufferred 2 decades of cuts in exactly what you decribe , frrom both tory and labour ( how many playing fields sold off???) .. but this is just pigs in the trough NOT what you suggest

p.s. you got ( or brought up ) a 5 to 12 year old ?? just maybe you would know that they get excited about many things .. including santa claus and other fairy tales ;)

a lot of hiding behind kids' reactions to the olympics going on. its actually v sick if you think about it : the exploitation for one thing, but also when kids' community funding (thru the lottery) is reported as being cut to help finance the olympics.

kids were very enthusiastic about following the pied-piper? as a grown up would you argue they were right to do so...?

I understand people's concerns about the cost (the money could be "better" spent), but the Sydney Olympics were fantastic.

The Guardian

Police are warning that the 2012 Olympic project is likely to be targeted by criminal gangs who traffic illegal immigrants as cheap labour.

Specialist officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (Soca), Britain's equivalent of the FBI, have visited some of the UK's biggest contractors, who are bidding for the Olympic contract, to discuss how eastern European organised gangs could exploit the huge demand for labour over the next six years.
