In addition, the latest Private Eye is reporting that the shooting range - cost £16 million - will be built for the Games, then dismantled. One wonders how many of the "world-class facilities" that were promised will go the same way (convieniently leaving the Government with a big slab of East London that will have superb transport links, and isnt a million miles away from the City, and which also has already had the little people turfed off it).

Oh good, a new canary wharf :rolleyes:

Not quite what I had in mind when London won the bid on the strength of promises to leave a 'great sporting legacy' for the British public.

Mind you, petrol-bombing financial bigwigs is my idea of perfect sport :cool:

Pretty lights, glam photoshopping, what are the stadiums like?

Well the middle is the Nou Camp...it's just a re-skin of the existing stadium, so pretty fucking amazing. Allianz Arena (top) is generally considered a brilliant football stadium, with some of the best sight lines.

And Beijing hasn't been used yet but it's just a big bowl, like London.

What an utter waste of public money.

No stadium design however good could justify the amount that the taxpayer is being fleeced for this utterly pointless project.

It's Tony Blair's 'legacy project' - they've all got to have one - so don't be mean . . . .

g force - I didn't recognise the Nou Camp or even know they do re-skinnings. Ta.

a cable-supported roof that will stretch 28 metres the whole way around the stadium, providing cover for two-thirds of spectators;

ok so I'm a wee bit confused about this, the roof only covers the two thirds of the seats furthest away from the field (presumably), and they're planning to remove two thrids of the seats after the olympics... would I be right in thinking that they'd logically be removing the seats furthest away from the field of play, so in effect they're going to be removing all the seats that are actually under cover, and basically leaving us with a 25,000 uncovered seater stadium with a fucking expensive shell round the outside to keep the wind off.

how is that cleverer?:confused:

Can't help but feel it'll all be fine and that it's still going to be a monster cock-waving exercise for the Chinese Gov.

I know people are unhappy with London, but I'm very glad the overall idea seems to be to try and break so many ridiculous and cliched Olympic 'conventions'.

A simple, functional stadium, a non-cliched Logo, hopefully the unlinking of athletics events with military hardware - even if it's only, in the UK, the Red Arrows (it won't be in Bejing). So many more challenges ahead. Hope they do something about the opening and closing ceremonies in particular.

Onwards!

Can't help but think the Beijing one looks a bit naff. Like some mad art project - not that I like the London one much either tbh.

The Sydney and Athens ones were ok though.
