Old Street

it is a bit actually - at the top of the street cafe 1001 is on, there's a snack bar in the form of a 'rootmaster' bus and round the corner is a design studio that's well sugarape. i walked past there late on a sunday once and the designers were sitting in what looked like a victorian library, sitting round an ornate dining table and idly flicking through catalogues and sample books.

:D

Rootmaster is one of the best veggie places to eat in London and the staff are all lovely (and mainly French) :)

never, ever go there Fridays/saturdays/sundays. it's just full of idiots out to get pissed and have a fight these days.

and never go to the old blue last as it's just full of complete WANKS.

other than that, it's sound to go out in during the week - it's what you make of it really. keep off the main 'stretch' and there's some decent places.

hoxton still has this rep as being full of hipster types but all the nathan barleys moved to dalston a couple of years ago and old st is basically just full of office workers and lads in checked ben sherman shirts at night now.

no. the food tastes like clay and the 'staff' appear to have a problem remembering they are 'staff' and thus their job spec necessitates processing and serving orders rather than smoking roll ups and 'skanking' about to bob marley-esque reggae-lite.

but maybe i just went on a bad day :p

no way - if your ears are ringing, something's not right with the sound system and/or the person using it has little consideration for the system and the punters.

Horrible roundabout to cycle round. You need a good forefront attitude and out wide arms to communicate with the psycho cabbies. Good fun tho.

Aye Boyce, you ever been there to see Theo Parrish??? He's far away from dubstep/electro/minimal, the closest I'll ever get to seeing a Ron Hardy/Larry Levan type DJ. He's deep deep spiritual. And the sound system is second to none.

Agree with you on Theo and the sound system. The sound system at Plastic People is probably the cleanest of all of the London clubs, better than MOS, Fabric & The End IMHO.

thanks for that, i must track it down, Dalston is where it's really at , Brick Lane is always a tourist trap.

actually, i think what you would unfortunately find now is that dalston is basically now becoming as woeful as hoxton was like 4/5 years ago as far as clubs go.

ie two swedish fashion students with a laptop playing 'ironic' tracks by the likes of europe, cindy lauper etc with the odd hip hop or italo track thrown in. pretty dire really.

you're right about brick lane though. dont think there's been any half decent clubs on there for best part of the decade.
