Old skool drivers - would you pass the theory test?

passed :)

3 or the 5 I got wrong included two questions about what happens after tests are passed and one about HGV max speed, none of which I care about. otoh I suppose I should know how many feet the stopping distances are and what the funny warning lights on the dashboard are about. :o

Dammit. Failed. I don't have a clue what stopping distances are in feet. I think in terms of car lengths and stopping time.

utter garbage, some of the answers are incorrect.

7)What is the shortest stopping distance at 70 mph?

a)73 metres or 240 feet
b)53 metres or 175 feet
c)60 metres or 200 feet
d)96 metres or 315 feet

I went for 53m they say it's 96m

It now has 360 mm (14.2 inches) discs at the front and 312 mm (12.2 inches) at the rear gave the RS4 braking to match, needing less than 50 m (155 ft) to come to a full stop from a speed of 110 km/h (69 mph)

I should hope so, if you drive :) But can you pass the theory test, right here, right now, without any preparation? Takes about 15-20 minutes and is actually quite funny in places (somewhat to my surprise, I've never seen one before).

passed.

Not bad seeing as I didn't even have any lessons :)

I will take note of the trailer towing regs, but I prefer to exaggerate stopping distances as I'm mostly on two wheels.

Congratulations you have passed
Pass Mark: 43

11) Where are you most likely to see this sign?

You answered:
D - In a lay-by
The correct answer is:
C - On the motorway
The phone is always within half a mile from any spot on the motorway. Look at the arrows on the nearest post. These will tell you the direction to walk to the nearest phone when you break down.
The phones are free to use, and connect you straight to the police who control that stretch of motorway

It is important to be extra cautious driving on snow or ice.
Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions can be dangerous.

I went for 53m they say it's 96m

I suspect the figures quoted by the Highway Code are for something like a 1964 Austin Cambridge :D

They do include reaction times, though, which I don't think the RS4 mentions.

In my haste I didn't notice the "blue" bit :o

edit :- or "emergency services" :o:o

I am going to have to do this all soon so that I can have a Portuguese licence. I want to keep my UK licence, it is more easily recognised in FL, but need to have a Pt licence to meet the local law. Apparently I live here for too much of the year (9 months) to be allowed to use my UK licence, and they are tightening up on the number of residents illegally using foreign licennces.

It should be fun trying to do the theory in Portuguese! (Judging by the low standard of driving here it must be very easy to get a licence)

Failed! 41. Didn't know anything about MOTs, caravan speeds, how long a pass certificate lasts etc. - just as well I don't drive!

I like this question:

39) If you see a person waiting at a zebra crossing who has a white stick with red bands, they are likely to be: -A - Blind
B - Deaf and without Speech
C - Blind and deaf
D - A Manchester united supporter

Quality! Where's 'E, all of these'?

I saw one a while ago that, on the subject of a tanker spillage, offered "D: mop it up".

You really need to learn the highway code distances with and without the thinking time.
It it is a good guide to reality despite a well serviced car with ABS being able to beat those distances by miles.
(Our four motorcycles have wilding different braking distances. The only a fool breaks the two second rule is the ten second rule with one of them in the wet.)
