Crooklyn Dodgers- Crooklyn
I know its the first sign of getting old, but hip hop today is shite - even Kendrick Lamarr and Tyler the creator you have to search for the good tracks. Been listening to some De La Soul - their music they sampled and produced was superb. These days the "beats" seem an afterthought, whereas old school it was 75% of it.
De La Soul is fantastic. Look how much fun people are having in the video - no embarassing gangsta posturing here
This was an odd move - Flash appears to have realised recently that his legacy needs to be set out (as he would wish it to be) - but this is highly likely to be motivated by the fallout from Bambaataa's experiences. The 'Trinitarian' foundations of 'Hip Hop' are increasingly fragile. Obvious point - History is contested - and within less than 50 years of an apparent point of origin. A lesson there for 'historians' everywhere.
The other lesson - Flash is still doing the same routine that made his name originally - with the same records and techniques.
That was excruciating to watch, not to mention the seizure inducing graphics
I agree. If you have a genuine love for Hip Hop then some of the recent developments are of concern. If we are going to be honest then Flash didn't mean shit to most people (at least in the UK) and certainly by '85 his DJing was DEAD.
His reputation has been built around the claim as to 'who was first' - not 'who was greatest'. He wants to inhabit and condition a teleology whilst at the same time avoid being destroyed by it (fuck Hegel's sublation).
