1984 Emergency Records

Haven't got the 12" Squelch, but it does appear on the 'Let The Music Scratch' compilation issued on StreetWave in 1984, catalogue number MKL1, which is worth listening to!

I will see what I can do about finding out if it was issued as a 12", and where there might be a copy.

BB :)

Yep, "Let the music scratch" is where I heard it from. excellent compilation that. Its quite "housey" sounding for some of it rather than electro which is cool considering house music isn't mean't to have started till about 86 ( I think?).

According to this place it was the B side to a Italo house record called "Runnaway".

Electroplated that cover is    :D

I was scanning my old programme for UK Fresh 86 yesterday and found a list of Africa Bambaataa's top hip hop break records.

bambartalist29xj.md.jpg

Apache has to be my favourite probably followed by "Mardi Gras" by Bob James. I would have to add "The Mexican" by Babe Ruth to that list.
Anyone got any other favourite breaks? Westwood used to play some good stuff.

Good to see someone else has kept their UK Fresh programme. Mine's tatty, but there are still the same shots of remarkable wrap-around shades and some fantastic memories in there! Nice beaver hat from DJ Cheese IIRC too...

Loads of breaks out there, probably too many to mention. But a honourable mention for 'Trip to your head' from Sly Stone, which was one of my break 'discoveries' many, ,many years back. And then Cool J went and nicked the 'aahs' for 'Mama said knock you out...'
 ;)

Maximum respect for that cover Electroplated - hope it's got the "Home taping is killing music" cassette and crossbones warning on the back.

Squelch, did you go to UK Fresh 86? Have got a recording of it (alas I was only ten at the time  ) and comes across as the stuff of legend.

If I PM you my tracklist plus the tracklists of CD's received, any chance can you knock a couple of those covers up for me? :)

Yes, Im glad to say I was there. :D The first concert I ever went to (I would of been 14), and what a great event it was too.
Mike Allen played it on his show and I have got it all on cassettes somewhere in my parents loft. I've been meaning to dig it out and record it to CD or MP3 for ages but it means rummaging through tons of junk in the loft.

I did find a web site which had an MP3 of DJ Cheese & Word Of Mouth's set, which was one of the hilights of the show for me. DJ Cheese mixing between 2 copies of Good Times drove the crowd wild, as you can hear.

:D

Im sure the whole show is on soulseek.

I bought a double cd recording of it off some guy on ebay. I'll bung it in the post to you if you can't be bothered to trawl through your loft. I vaguely remember making the same offer to someone else on here and then forgetting to do it. Remind me who you are and I'll sort it out.

Confession: I haven't sent mine out yet, and now I'm off camping for the weekend. Promise I'll send them on Monday. Apologies to those waiting.

Hmmm....go on then - PM the tracklists and I'll see what I can do - or do you just want a blank template without the track names on so you can add them yourself?

Lovely work guv. The instrumental mix of Running would indeed be a cracker.

I've now, you'll probably not be pleased to know, got a particular section of one Mike Allen tape going around in my head. It's that Masta Ace track, sounding spectacularly prescient for the time, with the lyrics going something like this:

Can even see the tape it was on, complete with a Garbage Pail Kid sticker on (I was young and foolish once...:() a free low quality cassette that long since turned in audio mush.

But I can't see any reference to that song on the interweb. Perhaps I've got the artist wrong, perhaps I just imagined it. Am I going mad...

Yes you got the Artist wrong, It was actually MC Chill - The Prophecy

WooHoo! Cheer for that ht - that's been bugging me for ages. Weird how the memory works - now you've said MC Chill it all seems so bloody easy to recall, before and nothing seemed to ring true.

Cheers again..
