i tend to agree. loads of old stuff is shit & irrelevant. i think a lot of stuff gets credit because it invented certain things, but all the good bits just show up in new stuff, so you can absorb it without seeing the original. examples:

Citizen Kane. wow, it invented a whole load of cinematic thechiniques and bla bla but its actually just poo in itself.

or Nietsche. invented some revolutionary philosophy but actually he's just a dick so don't read him, just read new stuff and you'll find all his ideas are absorbed. all their contributions are absorbed into the collective unconscious....
