Old Albums You'd Recommend to Younger Posters

Capt. Beefheart - Clear Spot
Can - Monster Movie

Agree with previous recommendations for these two acts also.

Dr Feelgood - Stupidity
Hawkwind - Space Ritual
Led Zeppelin - Led Zep 1

Oddly enough, this is my favourite Zep LP. :)

Well, I like something on every one of the others, but there's always something wanky on there as well to spoil the mood. If you look at their live stuff on YouTube it's pretty clear that they peaked sometime around 69-70 or so ...

For sure. I think you're right: they became a little bloated by the time of III...and to think they were supposed to be the [new] Yardbirds. :D

Cream-- Disraeli Gears
Hendrix-- Electric Ladyland, Axis, Bold as Love
Miles Davis-- Bitch's Brew
Weather Report-- Heavy Weather
Frank Zappa-- Hot Rats, Chunga's Revenge

Christy Moore - Prosperous. (from when Christy was putting together the team that became Planxty).

Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece (slightly overlong, but better than Astral Weeks).

Joni Mitchell - Hejira (the brilliant, jazz-fusion album that nobody knows, overshadowed by her earlier folky stuff).

Little Walter Jacobs-- Hate to See You Go
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band-- East/West
Martha Reeves-- Wild Night
Gil Scott-Heron-- The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Taj Mahal-- Recycling the Blues and Other Related Stuff, Mo' Roots
Bonnie Raitt-- Give It Up, Takin' My Time

The Mob...Let the Tribe Increase

Not 30 years old by any means but so many people won't have heard it and I know Griff will approve:cool:

one of the greatest albums I own, and one of the most depressing. Makes Joy Division look like the Vengaboys...

"i wish i could laugh, it must be fun to laugh..."

that Paul Simon album from the '80s that has "Diamonds on the soles of my shoes" on it...

Sloppy Seconds - Destroyed
Blitz-Voice of a Generation
Cock Sparrer-Shock Troops
Adverts-Crossing the Read Sea
Partisans-Time is right

Thin Lizzy - their first longplayer, back from when they were a progressive rock trio. Demonstrates Phils of black american sounds and images, and ancient Irish mythology.

Leonard Cohen - New Skin for the Old Ceremony. this is the one with 'Chelsea hotel no. 2' on it, and plenty more good (and neglected) stuff besides.

Bob Dylan - New Morning. A really unjustly neglected album from Zimmerman; this is the one that provided 'the Man in Me' for the Big Lebowski soundtrack, but that's far from being the best song on this neglected piece of work.

The Yes album - Yes ( Wurm is a classic )

Argus - Wishbone Ash. ( Throw down the sword XXX)

Fire and Water. Free (Mr Big...A cracking vocal by Paul Rogers)
