If they had tried to do a Steampunk/Graphic novel/mystery/adventure set in Victorian England, I might very well have liked it. When they tried overlay Sherlock Holmes into the mix they lost me.
Do something new and interesting and you'll have me.
I thought it was shit. The film had no idea what it was trying to be and just wandered around with a silly plot filling the short gaps between un-required action scenes.
Just come back from seeing it - was ok but nothing more, enjoyed RDJ's part but that's more because I have a bit of a crush on him. More than anything however got put in a very grumpy mood by the trailer for the remake of Edge of Darkness, fucking heresy
I saw it and managed to fall asleep halfway through. It looked like they were pulling in all sorts of Steampunk elements into the art direction. They managed to drag everything interesting about Sherlock Holmes into a back alley and ass-rape it repeatedly
But as I said at the top of the last page, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and truthfully I think the people slagging it off are going a bit too far really.
I will watch the sequel, but I won't be queuing overnight or anything.
