As for getting your ratio up, I say don't try and be tactical about it - just leave your computer on whenever you can. Almost everything gets to 1.0 before too long, unless it's unpopular and gets deleted. I'm seeding about 200 torrents from it.

My best torrent ratios are:

* Spoon - Gimme Fiction (19.135)
* Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People (12.257)
* David Cross - Shutup (7.287)
* Rodrigo y Gabriela (6.874)

and my biggest uploaded amounts are:

* Michel Thomas - Learn French (3.43Gb)
* Spoon - Gimme Fiction (1.47Gb)
* David Cross - Shutup (1.20Gb)
* Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People (1.08Gb)

With the exception of the french thing, they're all about 100mb. All of them have been seeding ages. What I'm trying to tell you is you don't go for huge things like Rosetta Stone language CDs cos you'll fuck yourself before you get anywhere.

I lost my power user status recently but I ave a ratio over 0.9 so wouldn't tak me too long to build it back up again (you need a ratio over 1.1 or something to get invites)

The majority of invites I've given out have been wasted as people either don't understand bit torrent, lose interest quickly with being able to access infinite free music or just do a hit and run, rape it for all it's worth then get a ban for leeching too much.

And you can get a 1:1 ratio by downloading only as much as you upload and you won't be kicked off until your ratio drops to 0.5 (I think, something really low anyway).

So what's the point of me downloading loads of 10MB files just to get a 1:1 ratio when I can get one just by uploading the odd cd whenever I download one?

You do know how bit torrent and ratios work don't you?

what i don't understand is that one of things I was seeding (amoungst a lot of other seeds) showed i had uploaded 5gb from it - yet on the onik site it shows i have only uploaded 1 gb in total......anyone know why that is?

I wouldn't be suprised if it gets shutdown - it is pretty blatant...

My oink ratio is sorted - for 5 days or so over xmas they didn't didn't count downloads only uploads I ended up with a ratio of 1.65 and I would need to download over 3 gig to change that.
Before that I had a ratio of 0.6. So look out for that at the end of the year...

Upload CDs in a lossless format. FLAC etc seem to be very popular formats on Oink and they are huge files compared with MP3s, so more upload per album.

It's saved my ratio in the past.
