Oh you have got to be effing kidding me. They're remaking Alien

i love that film the wheelies scared the crap out of me, but yes there is tons of stuff they could do if they had any imagination. To be honest i am amazed that there isnt a movie version of wicked yet, given the success of the show and after Mamma Mia, it would make perfect sense to the no brains of Hollywood.

Mercy, i cry Mercy i give in please stop now :(

I feel the need for some pitchforks and burning torches to turn up in Hollywood right now.

the books the shows based on are ace

I am teetering on the edge of rage.
If Bladerunner is ever remade I will renounce all that is good

Part of my anger is just that this is another fucking remake, has no one got any new ideas anymore?

Also - as Michael Caine said in a recent interview - if people are going to do it why don't they try remaking some flops/ship films to see if they can do them better rather than choose good filums.

The Alfie remake was painfully bad.

Thing is, I don't mind a re-make so long as it is done well. Half the rage people feel about re-makes stems from the fact that the majority are totally shit.

still no reason to be 'angry' - why bother? it's hollywood!

I ndon't see how Alien or Aliens could possibly be improved upon but that's not the point, is it.

So what is the point? Purely filthy filthy lucre?

hollywood would rather make money on safe, tried and tested franchises than risk millions on dreams

It can't be that hard to put together an idea for a new sci-fi space horror film.

They've got the talent and budget.

OK, so 'Hollywood' makes a haunted house movie on a space ship (which is basically what Alien is), that features an small crew that somehow let an alien on board which then proceeds to kill all but one of them who then somehow goes on to kill the alien.

Everyone would turn around and say 'Hey, that movie is just a rip off of Alien!', so why bother calling it something different?

exactly, as I mentioned above.

I'd like to see someone remake Dark city with better baddies and without Keifer Sutherland's perplexingly bad voice (he contrives this really weird stammering old person's voice and it just sounds really silly)

Event Horizon did it pretty well. OK that wasn't about an Alien but it was still a haunted house film in space. Mind you, I think it ripped off Hellraiser much more than Alien.

Disingenuous. There was more to Alien than being a haunted house in space... more like a haunted mechanical palace ruled by a soulless queen while ungrateful children are hunted in its halls and passageways and picked-off messily by something dark and wild and evil and vile. You won't find that in black an white. There are all sorts of ways to interpret that film (the Feminists have all sorts of things to say about it) there's no need to be reductionist about it, it deserves more.

A remake of predator without Arni? ......... That maybe worth a watch. ;-) Who would you pick for the part? X

*falls to knees and raises arms and face to the heavens*

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Jesus. I bet there are hundreds of good scripts from brilliant writers that were turned down because some guy who, failing to find inspiration, edited a classic script knowing Hollywood would pay him straight up.

:(

oh god.

it's inevitably going to be complete and utter rubbish. no doubt with jessica alba as ripley (vom) and a love story with some bland hero inserted gratuitously to cover up the gaping holes where imagination used to reside.

Just don't watch.

It is heart breaking for sure, and the reasons and motives are obviously money, but let the soulless fucks who produce, direct, and act in it sign their pact and be done with it.

Fuck em. I learnt long ago that not much is sacred in this world, so why should films be any different? And if they do remake it and you loved the original like I did, don't endorse it in any way. Don't even download it. Let it be forgotten in the chronicles of history and pretend it doesnt even exist. Thats what ill do anyway. Don't mean preach or anything

I think remakes are alright when the two versions were made in very different cinematic eras - the remake of the Fly for instance, or Cape fear.

But alien, along with star wars, was one of the first films of the era we're in now. If you see what I mean. Would be insane to remake it.

Hold on according to that article Kurt Wimmer is doing the script. He did the update of the Thomas Crown Affair in '99, which IMO is a far superior version to the original (Which did not age well).

So I'll hold judgment on this one.

However, they are remaking Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie SANS Michelle Geller and Josh Weedon.

Yes the idiots who fucked up Buffy the first time out, are having another swing at the plate, because, hey, they didn't get it right the first time round.

Are they retarded? They fucked up the film, and then watched as Josh Weedon took the crumpled remains of his idea, rebuilt it, and developed a massive slavish fan base, and now what, they think they can what? Work their old magic? Fucktards.
