I don't think the Spice Girls' manifesto was ever to be great singers. What they were were great performers (except Victoria). They carried that whole cartoon-esque imagery off like few others have ever done, and their emergence perhaps paved the way for the subsequent success of other girl bands, most obviously All Saints, Sugababes and Girls Aloud, but also the UK-selling of TLC and Destiny's Child. The Spice team, that is the Girls and their managers and writers, worked the press to perfection.
I'm all for the gigs, but one area they shouldn't follow Take That is in releasing new stuff. TT's new songs are so so poor compared to their classics.
