Oh my fucking lord, they are making Independence Day 2!!!

Isn't this a really nasty anti-alien film story that could be paralleled with ol' american fundy christian whitey's fear of non-christian dark-skinned people/cultures?

its a great film,i love it when america saves the day.

Me too. America is the only country in the world that can pull off that sort of shit with a straight face and not look insanely ridiculous. Imagine us doing it...be well crap. Probably get the Alien Rights Act invoked at us or something and we'd have to offer all the aliens free palatial council homes or something! Honestly, it's political correctness gone mad, getting hold of a samurai sword and running up and down the high street randomly slicing people's faces off for six hours before being taken down with a tranq dart.

It could if you wanted to get all head-up-your-arse about bangy-crashy SF B-movies, yes. It'd still be shit criticism tho.

I don't remember the darkies(or sand darkies or whatever) blowing up the white house or wanting them to destory all life nick the natural resources of the planet and then move on.

To be honest.

I'd say it's been a feature since the Roswell/ 1950s. Post-9/11, these voices have had more traction in the media.

Funny how the anti-alien mythos is often mixed up with white supremacist/right-wing patriot bullshit, ain't it.

well there was a lull in the 80s/90's which gave rise to what could be termed pinko-hippy stuff like Cocoon, close encounters, to an extent Star Trek. (TNG)

A lot of american sci fi is traditionally about fear of the other though ennit.

Apparently during the test screening the audience stood up at the end and chanted "SHOW IT AGAIN, SHOW IT AGAIN", unconfirmed reports say that three producers soiled their trousers.

I've never got round to watching that, actually. Is it any good or what? Hear a mad mixed bag of reviews.

Ken. Wait have you not seen Independence Day or Starship Troopers.

If you've not seen Independence day have you just spent the last decade doing a phenominal impression of a 12th century hermit. And dude if you've not seen Starship Troopers. Well. My entire class went to a press screening at 10pm. It's got to be the only screening of the film where whenever a massive bug got killed ten guys ran to the front of the cinema took off our shirts and waved them over their heads.

It's my effing thread, matey!

I have seen bits and bobs of ST but not all the way through - total failing on my part, I know...I heard it was pretty nazi when it came out and let that put me off. I'll get on it asap.

IMDB makes all ilm degrees worthless:cool:

I was about to argue the point (as a force of habit) and mock your spelling mistake, but then I realised you're right and it depressed me a little bit. :(

On the other hand I did spend 3 years getting pissed and watching films for a degree, so swings and roundabouts innit? :D

It's a satire on a fascist society.

And pretty nazis are hawt.

same director as Robocop (another satire). Used the Hienlen book as source material but skewed it to be mocking.
