oh dear lord...

It's not unusual for folk down here in london to ask me whether they need a passport to go to scotland.
I always say yes, of course.

Think that would happen if we got independance? It would be wierd having border checks at hadrians wall.

You don't. But some carriers want to id you in case you're a terrorist. (It's not a border control; it's a transport security thing).

They seem to accept different standards of ID though. If a utility bill is OK from UK-Eire, why not from UK-France?

A valid UK passport is required for all travel to the Continent. If you need any information on visa requirements please visit the French Consulate website: www.consulfrance-londres.org

Irish Ferries recommend all passengers bring a passport with them. Irish and British citizens do not strictly require a passport to travel between the two countries - some form of identification is however required. Photo ID, Bank Cards or bills for house utilities addressed to you are all acceptable and useful means of identification.

I guess it's just up to the operators and what they consider the risk in each case.

But if it's entirely down to the operators why are there UK/French immigration officials scanning my passport when I use the Eurostar?

Isla St Claire was an early source of trouser-arousal when I was too young to realise the connection between lady/stiff cock.

Wow, all you Albans must be proud! My favourite bit was where the dancers do a weird combination of contemporary R&b style dancing with the occassional little Highland Jig - that mixing of US street culture with the Highlands marks this video down as a future classic.

Albannaich, please.

Why is it that you need a passport to travel between France/UK, but not between Eire/UK?

Special relationship. Old friend of mine used to fly between Eire and London without owning a passport long time back.

Quite a few airlines do require a passport for internal flights between England ad Scotland. Despite it being a clear breach of the act of Union.

I'm sure I've flown to Scotland on a driving licence* before.

* As a passenger, that is, not as a pilot.

Yes, BA and one other airline simply require a form of ID but most of the others ask for what usually amounts to a passport. Except BMI Baby who will accept a pension book.

That'll be because easyjet allow photo id(passprt or driving licence) for internal flights. If you fly BA or Scot Airways you don't need photo id at all, or you didn't a couple of years ago.

someone on facebook has just been kind enough to direct my attention to
all the way through, I was hoping against hope it might turn out to be a spoof :(

*scrubs ears and eyes and mind with caustic soda*

Man that's pure pish.

But then, so is Riverdance.

So it'll be a roaring success :D

You guys should show some respect for Scotland! This was quite a good performance of Scotish heritage. We do have more contemporary music in Scotland but our heritage is quite important. I think it was brilliant! Go Scotland!!!

It was fucking awful! ( Except for the port a beul ).

Thats the annoying thing about Isla - she was also a really good singer, with an outstanding background in traditional music till she went all tartan-glam. :(

Danced with her once, at a post-concert dance in Strontian. Dear Lord, that was 35 years ago.:D

And look who I'm working with this weekend:

Yes, its the purple gown/floaty dress woman! :D

I joined-in with the kids but I'll leave her to manage herself thanks! Besides, my colleague kept opening the mic beside me for a laugh - Probably to try & catch me muttering under my breath! :D

Fiona Kennedy - she's the one in the massive purple ballgown in that clip.

Also the daughter of a Scottish entertainment legend & a no bad singer in her own right. 80s were probably her heyday.
