Offline 8 at the Brixton Ritzy, Thurs Sept 9th

I wish now I'd been at the Ritzy....I was only in the Albert from about 7:15 to just after 8:15 and had to be rescued by a friend from U75 related abuse :(

Oh dear. I think I could take a guess as to where that was coming from.

Why didn't you just tell him to fuck off and get over it?

As a DJ, I was expecting piles of free drugs and women throwing themselves at my feet

Tell me about it. I managed to cadge two fags and a scrawny handwritten note saying 'I'm a DJ honest give me a free drink'. That was it.

If I'm doing the Dogstar I expect nothing less than a whole crate of Babycham and Urban totty dancing naked in a drug-crazed circle round me. You know, like they do in Mixmag.

the barman wouldn't even accept mine - he decided i'd faked it and wouldn't give a drink. jobsworth fuck.

sorry to hear about all these annoyances in the posts above, grmpf!

however i had a really brill thrill nite and i am glad i made it at all...i love if a stroke of good idea takes over my conscious mind. ;)

ie i would have never dreamt that i would end up dancing barefoot in the ritzy bar. and it was very good too :D . top stuff. thanks to people and editor for organising and making this night happen!

but did you fake it Dub? I won't tell.....

Chucking out time was a tad shouty - I had to down my drink oafishly and peg it to the Dogstar instead.

My two favourite looks of the evening - poului does a "Byron" and Yoss does "swarthy Enid Blyton baddie".

My dj token was good - the beers was chilled and I managed to have a chat with a few people, although it became more of a shouting match and coupled with the fact that I went to the Dogstar, fell off the non-smoking wagon with a thud - I now have a very irritable vocal chords being soothed by lots of cups of tea.

Eggs-selent night :)

Thank my idle arse for not being in work at the moment as I have a bit of head.

Thanks to all for coming down to support the night - and thanks to the DJs who battled through innumerable - and annoying - technical difficulties.

I bet FatBoySlim doesn't have to work with gear like this!

Note the ghastly 'carousel' CD player (shudder)

That was a total hoot, despite a few arsey Ritzy staff - and it rocked!! :)

Thanks and well done to all the ace djs, and Mike :)

What was that fab piano track Gergl played?

Lovely to see everyone and have drunken chats 'n' boogie-ing.

My brain felt like it had an axe permanently lodged in it when I woke up this morning.

As they say - 'Beer then wine make you feel fine. Wine then beer make you feel queer'. Ooops-a-daisy!

Thankfully loads of Tizer and toast have cured the hangover - wonderful!:)

Almost the entire staff seemed to be locked into some ongoing, internal dispute all night. Every time I tried to find anyone from the management, I'd spot them engaged in intense discussions with very long faces.

To be honest, I was livid and not being told that the CD decks had fucked up the night before. If I'd been given some notice, I could have brought along a replacement. Instead several of the DJs had a really shitty (or non existent in the case of Silent Nate) Offline debut.

If the Dogstar night is a success, I may well switch it there permanently.

Jelly Roll Morton - 'Pop'

Full of ragtime goodness

I would've played a bit more jazz if we hadn't lost time with the aforementioned technical difficulties...

we must have been wearing our invisibility cloaks..

I must've been wearing my drunken spectacles.....

To be fair, your hair DOES look different every time you come out! ;)

For the 90% of you who missed my set, I managed to overcome the technical difficulties with the following tunes:

James Brown - Give it up or turn it loose
Charles Wright & the 103rd Street Rhythm Band - Express Yourself
Rufus Thomas - Itch & Scratch
The O'Jays - For the love of money
Kool & the Gang - Jungle Boogie

I had to take Friday off work because i was so hungover but guess that's what happens when you stay in the dogstar until 3am drinking cocktails

This is what i played -
The Sundays - Summertime
Joni Mitchell - Night in the City
Ladytron - Blue Jeans
Bright Eyes - Lover i don't have to Love
The Fiery Furnaces - My Dog was Lost but now he's Found
Charlie Parr - Worried Blues
Joanna Newsom - Peach, Plum, Pear

I agree the bar staff were all very off hand all night and the security guard giving Dub hassle was a little over the top, hmmmmm.

my memory of what i played is a bit sketchy, but i think it went:

Carla Thomas - B-A-B-Y!

Marvin Gaye - Can I Get A Witness

Martha & The Vandellas - Heatwave

Jackson Sisters - I Believe In Miracles

De La Soul - Eye Know

NWA - Fuck Tha Police

Foxy Brown - O Yeah

Le Tigre - Deceptacon

Booker T - Time Is Tight

Jean Knight - Mr Big Stuff

CLiff Noble - The Horse

Sean Paul - Infiltrate

there was more than that, but i've forgotten..
