Um, hello, we've had air conditioning systems in the UK for at least the last 20 years, and you *still* haven't figured you don't open doors & windows or your godamn mouth to claim how cold air con is ffs it's air con what did you expect fish to pour from vent's in the cealing in some kind of biblical heat reduction senerio? heards of wildebeast to rush past your desk at timed intervals to provide the apporpreate level of wafting draught....

E2A: Dam miss minnie did it first and almost an hour ago. Sulk, must refrresh windows that have been open a long time.

Something like that.

I hate air con – I fling open the windows and love to feel the breeze whipping through the office. This probably makes me unpopular with the shivering ladies in the middle of the office, but hey, that's what cardigans are for

Lol! I've just turned ours off... but then I'm in a one-room sector of the office with windows each side. At the moment the air-con is just making the room cold rather than keeping it cool and no group of people will be made too hot by turning it off.

Other half of the office is L-shaped though, so they're having some problems, including the 'wall of heat' that starts near sales and marketing. And it really is - you suddenly hit this hot bit of air that permeates the back corner of the office, especially when the air con is on!

lol, excellent post. ive had the same prob in 2 companies ive worked for in the past. Blokes have t-shirts / shorts on and are boiling to death, whilst one woman sitting next to us blokes is wearing fleece, gloves & wolly hat complaining its too cold! Then, just because she is cold she turns the air con off. Rediculous. 1 cold woman thinks 50 blokes have to suffer. The blokes couldnt really strip off any more, but she could put another coat on!

The above post lends more credibility to my theory that women are (in general) heat sinks (absorb heat) and men are heat sources (produces of heat).

Think your right there. Most of the girls ive dated are always complaining that they are cold, when ive been hot. (not in a dodgy way i hasten to add)

Will you fuck off with your teeny tiny vest top turning the air con off. I sit next to the window - the sun is beating on it. I can barely breathe!

Put some fucking clothes on for fuck's sake

I had to take desperate measures here, the air con is right above me, so I just covered the vent that was making me neck sore, as it was so cold...

Thing is I've done that before and some idiot took it down - probably for some stupid reason like health & safety ;)

p.s. I always keep a cardigan in the office, in summer it is always much colder in the office than it is in the outside world.

Considering we have an extra layer of blubber it's one of those facts of life that really puzzles me. Surely us women should feel less cold as we have more insulation...

Or is it because we have less muscle? Maybe muscle keeps you warm?

I thought the only extra 'muscle' that men had was the one between their legs... ;)

You might have a point, hadn't thought of it that way. :)

yeah
i cycle in and have to open the window as soon as i get in
but the people who drive in are all snug in the warm and don't like me leaving window open too long

In my office it is blokes in t-shirts right through to December with heating off, whilst the two Jamaican women gradually start adding layer after layer from about September onwards and never cease to stop moaning about the cold right through till May.

No air con though. If you want to cool things down you merely open the doors that lead out to the 1000 square foot warehouse.

I just realised I started reading this thread and liking posts that were 5 years old

Issue in my office too. 3 girls in the office, 2 of us run very hot and one runs very cold. No air con.
Also, if there is sun we get it beating down on the windows until about 2pm. I have managed to keep the radiator off on the proviso that I won't open the window automatically in the morning.

AND AGAIN
Too-hot-colleague #1 'accidentally' left the heating on overnight
So now the office is baking, and they won't switch it off, let alone open a bloody window to cool things down a bit. I opened the window, only to be met with howls of 'Oh the draft! It's so cold!' WTF.
Eurgh, stuffy hot offices. Horrible.

From an employers pov I suspect, within an obv. range, the warmer it is the less productive you are.

Womens' bodies do vary more in temp more than do mens, so what seems warm at one point isn't at another.

I think there's also a view that the difference in body muscle can affect perception/actuality, though ....

But yeah, it's all shit.

I work in an open plan office with a row of manager's offices along one wall. They have air conditioning on a separate system, but instead of shutting the doors, they leave them open so we get a massive draught when we actually reach anything like a reasonable temperature. I had 5 layers on today (vest, thick shirt, medium jumper, warmest jacket and thick fleece) until lunchtime, most of the men don't even bother with a jumper.

I also had a hot water bottle as my kidney can get really sore in the cold.

In the summer it was so stuffy (no windows or air con nearby) I was drinking 3 litres of water in 8 hours.

Can't win.

Bump :D

Anyone else having heating wars in the office at the moment?
It's driving me spare. TOO. FUCKING. HOT.

There are two people who, no matter how hot it is are constantly cold. One of them even uses a hot water bottle in July ffs :D:rolleyes:

We are only in a small room and I can deal with the radiators being on - but the portable heater get a bit much and the rest of the office are walking around in short sleeves.

The past three years I have simply taken the fuse out of the heater, replaced it two days later, taken it out, replaced it etc. so they think it's faulty and don't use it. This year I may just melt the wire and report it to facilities as a health and safety hazard.

I'm lucky. I work in a small office and we all seem to have pretty similar office temperature preferences. We NEVER have our radiator on, don't have air conditioning, and have the window open pretty much all year. I can't bear being too hot and i hate central heating. It gives me really bad headaches and totally dries my skin out until it's painful.

I've always got very angry when i've worked in other offices where people moan about being cold and how we must have the heating blasting out, and they're sitting there in theiry skimpy little outfits. Put a bloody jumper on ffs

"people"? Don't you mean "women"? ;)

"people"? Don't you mean "women"? ;)

no i don't just mean women. Like I said, in the office where i currently work, we're all women and we all like the window open and don't get cold. Lots of men seem to like having the heating blasting out so they can sit around in the t-shirts like it's summer.
