Old cronies, crap. I can just about find things but only by guessing.
UI design & engineering is supposed to be user and workflow centric, and that means matching their expectations, not confounding them. If you decided one day that the flight controls on an airliner made more sense backwards, pretty soon someone would crash the plane because they expected the old way.
That's not acceptable, so why enforce any revolutionary new designs on people when they expect the same as they've had since DOS based editors? Alright, it might stem from something antiquated or even a system that was originally bad, so make it optional, not 'BANG! Surprise! Here you go, I've changed everything'.
