Oasis: cra/not

absolute vermin. set back guitar music by decades. one of the worst bands of all time - a disgusting plodding blend of shit like the Beatles, T-Rex and Quo.

Cunts

They're shit, but please don't compare them to the Beatles - that really is an insult to the Beatles.

Oasis songs sound like songs out of a beginners' guitar book. Using 3 chords and 3 chords only in every bloody song.

It's like nursery rhymes. Nursery rhymes are easy to remember, and so are kids' songs. It doesn't make them 'good' though does it ? It makes them easy to remember, that is all.

whats being complex got to do with anything? were the ramones complex?

nothing wrong with not being complex at all.

i think the difference is that the ramones were doing something rarely seen before. but it's entirely subjective.

the ramones were great because they were a fun high energy rock n roll band that blew people away with their energy and rode a wave of social change, with lyrics that reflected the disaffected youth. and i like em. except all the shit they did later one. but you could argue that they were crap. i'd disagree.

the point is that i feel like some people think there is an absolutism. i like the simplicity of the ramones because it's supposed to be simple, energetic, and angsty. oasis stuff is simple becasue they've taken a load of other peoples' simple melodies and written mostly gibberish over the top. but they think they're great, songwriters of a generation, and even why they try to be complex they end up fucking 'whatever'... "stick a fucking violin over it liam, that'll make it classical music like".

so look, what one likes and doesn't is entirely subjective, and occasionally you can't help loving something you should hate... sound of the underground of all teh thigns she said for example.... but at least analyse it somewhat eh.

I only slated your post cos Onket praised it. There needs to be balance in life :D

(and I listen to vs and Ten quite often!!)

ah, you are the yin to onket's yang.

So, from what I can (skim) read, the general concensus is that oasis are crap and thought I'd come in and give my two penneth.

I LOVE Oasis and always have. I was 13 ish when they were around and got into them first because of my bro and then later me and all my mates got into them massively.

I can listen to Oasis songs one after another after another. I dont know why, I just fucking like them. And thats enough for me. I dont give a fuck if they arent the BEST song writers or musicians in the world (although there are alot, lets not forget, that are FAR FAR FAR worse), I like their music, it makes me smile and jig around. And thats enough for me :)

Apart from Songbird. Utter shite. Just let Liam play with his tambourine and let Noel to the hard work :D

Oasis had their moment in 1993/94/95.. Liam Gallagher's a twat, but a character.

They made acouple of albums which 'caught the general public's imagination' and got non-NME reading folk back into guitar music.

Yes they're derivative, un progressive etc but I think they served their purpose..

(blah, blah, blah)

^ what she said

I don't give a fuck about all that either. I didn't think they were much when I first heard them, but then, about 18 months after everyone else raved about them, a penny dropped with me...I listened without prejudice and fucking loved them :) I loved the first 2 albums, but hated the newer stuff

First up with regards to Blur. Mockney middle class cunts producing two of the most patronising songs ever in Parklife and Boys and Girls. Loved them till 98 when I stood rain socked at Glastonbury an ground my way through there set. Tried to get back into them a couple of years later and bought 13.

Never again.

Oasis. Loved em back in the day. For a brief while rock and roll was the new rock and roll. They were something I could identify with and support like no other band. They were blatant chancers who played songs I reckon I could have with a bit of work and stuck two fingers up at everything.

It was also masculine in a way that british music had not really been since punk (not even the roses were as bloke-ish). Like the Pistols, The Clash, Zepplin, The Who and the early Beatles there music had masculine swagger.

Fuck it I see why they are so hated.
