Aha! So what happened to all the "they'll never be able to sort pitch control guvnor" comments then? :p :o
i dunno, they never came from me... if they can sort pitch control for cd decks and mp3s on computers it'd be silly to say they couldn't do it for ipods.

Ah right, fari enuff (and a big LOL at your reason for editing!).

If it's any help, I've got an ancient (near 30 year old) Technics SL1200Mk1 on a Marantz PM7200 amp which comfortably outperforms a much more expensive Marantz CD6000 KISi cd player on 90% of material.

It just sounds warmer, richer and more immediate. The CD arguably picks up more detail, but it's just not as involving to me.

And - for all I love the convenience of all those mac based mp3s and AAC files (beamed to the amp wirelessly) the quality's not even close to either CD or Vinyl.

This just looks like a total gimmik for rich kids...

If you've got 2 ipods and a computer, you can just use Traktor to play the MP3's/Aiff/Wavs off the ipods.

there is no finer turntable.

I do agree with you, they are very good turntables, bands/clasical/jazz/etc is what really shines on the Rega, but dance muisc sounds better on a Technics IMO.

gah... too true... it's a tradeoff between ease of use/finding & ease of slipping into the music. Sadly they often seem to be at odds. I can't be arsed to put on records most of the time these days, & my cd player broke, so I'm listening to mp3s a lot... I like the ease of it & the ability to randomly play stuff from all my cd collection, but I do feel like the music's less "there".. more like a representation of the music; like seeing a painting on tv, or a photo of a great building. Still, have enjoyed a lot of music recently, & I do sometimes wonder if it's just being anal & *knowing* that they're less good quality which makes me enjoy mp3s less.

The Rega's easily one of the finest in its price range. It's a great player!

I always coveted a Linn Sondek LP12 but could never muster the wallet-crushing price.

I briefly owned a second hand, super-spoddy-audophile Roxsan Xerxes deck that sounding fucking a-mazing. Trouble was that everything so was high end on the deck that replacing a faulty motor cost more than buying a new Rega, so I did a deal with a nobby hi-fi shop.

it's the best i've ever heard, and owned. Unless you're talking some fucking £20,000 encased in concrete audiophile nonsense

You might want to consider the 'Orbe' or the 'Gyrodec', and, as the Editor mentioned, the LP12 Sondek. All of which would probably blow your little digital socks off.

BB :)

Moving back to the point ( avoding my preference for Gerrard decks....!)...

It still uses mp3 format. I would never spec it for any of our jobs , if someone wants one on a rider I`d get one but would try to steer them to cdj`s instead.
This need for someone to carry their whole set/ home collection in an ipod is a little strange, surely you`d take a few hrs worth of high quality audio ( sorry i`m a non ipod owner and don`t know if you can change the playback , rec settings to allow full 44.1 or 48hz audio. Most pro hard disk stuff allows different formats..?). Or maybe I`m missing something "cool" about it all?

.p.
