"nu-rave"

They seem to be having fun and even a laugh at themselves. I don't dig the music or the fashion but they seem to enjoy life and what they are doing, more power.

precisely. actually, even if they're NOT enjoying themselves, that's up to them too :D

can someone start some sort of interesting thread about different youth sub-cultures through the years now, please?

It all seems a bit Nathan Barley to me...

It all seems like a load of wanky old bollox to me

(and it was the scene Nathan Barley was based on wasn't it??)

nah, nu-rave is much more recent than that, if anything i suspect elements of nu-rave are probably referencing Barley rather than the other way round. In fact, i imagine pretty much everyone involved in nu-rave is well aware of what they're up to, it's all very knowing

nu-rave is fun

you're meant to have fun when you're a kid, and if you like you can carry on having fun well into old age. it's just that some people forget they were young and daft once :( or maybe their mums wouldn't let them have fun or be daft and now they're just miserable :(

((((joyless cunts)))) ;)

When my daughter first told me she was into nu rave, I was a bit puzzled like... (being there the first time and all)
But now I see her sitting across from me, bright and shiney in her little red dress and leopardskin footless tights, dead excited about seeing the Klaxons tomorrow at Shepherds Bush, and I'm full of admiration for her.
I mean around where we live, all the kids are 'townies' (so I'm told) and I'm proud of her individualistic streak...
More importantly, I love it that she has introduced me to this music that I proberbly wouldn't have heard of (at my great age) if it wasn't for her. There's an energy, optimism and intelligence in there, looking to make sense of, and find a place in, this fucked up world they find themselves inheriting.
I don't think it's Nathan Barley at all.

my girl would love to be seeing the klaxons tomorrow night, shame I didn't look into it earlier :o

hope your lovely has a wicked time aurora :)

I actually wish I was going with her, but sadly, those days are over...:D

i think the klaxons are a brilliant band. the first track of the album is great. i dont mind all the 'kids' dressing up etc thats what teenagers do! i dont understand the point about topshop etc leading the youth on though. thats just how fashion works, something is cool - people buy it.

noooo way are those days over!!

we should take our girls to a gig together - my girl said that she wished she knew your girl when I told her she liked the klaxons :D

it was the teenager listening to the klaxons. i said "i've got the original of this ("not over yet") on CD somewhere". she said "i don't care".

the yoot of today, eh? :D

:D

As it always was, and as it always will and should be.

Can't stand all this stuff personally; but I'm old, it's a generation gap, and it's a very healthy thing IMO. :)

Oh bejeeezus Sunspots ( almost put yer real name up then!) 'old?!

Loada shite, CSS played at our end-of-term ball and I didn't like them at all. Luckily Boys Noize came on after it so I could have a good stomper of a night. :D

CSS were on the NME Nu-Rave tour and since NME more or less invented the genre they must be, even though I don't understand how they got lumped in there.

i was casually watching that radio 1 preston thing last night and CSS were terrible. i don't understand how people can like it. *shrugs*

I'd think Lovefoxx has something to do with their appeal;)

who cares if it is nu-rave i love all the genre splicing goin on with the music, check this Hadouken sounds like grunge meets prodigy meets acid meets grime (that boy that girl) song.

I'm sure all the grime heads think it's terrible ;)
