Nu Chelsea bored already? 29,575 Attendance last night

Attendance are generally poor in the first rounds against the lower teams and it was straight after the Sunderland home game.

I always thought Anderlect were a fairly large club, at least the best known club from Belgium

No, that isn't the way things are done around here. You have to mortgage your house, sell your kids into slavery and your pets to vivisectionists, because if you don't go to every game home and away and spend lots and lots of money seeing your team (no matter how cash-strapped you are) you can't possibly be a "proper" fan. Oh yeah, and you aren't allowed to be a new fan of anything. You have to have liked cricket from three minutes after your birth or you aren't allowed to like it forever. Honest.

whats any of that go to do with Ch€l$ki not selling out there ground or the price of fish?

Merely pointing out that maybe a lot of fans have rather more pressing priorities in their lives than going to yet another football match. Maybe Chelsea fans – "nu", old or otherwise – are saving their money for other perhaps more important games.

How come the other British clubs have managed to drag in the fans?

what like the barcodes?

34,000 in that 'hotbed of football' for a competitive match against Top Flight European side this season???

Nearly 30000 people for a Tuesday game seems quite a lot.

I was shocked when reading teletext last weekend - in the SPL Celtic had 10's of thousands and most others had thousands attending. What a rubbish league that must be.

edit: Falkirk - Rangers 6,500. Celtic - Aberdeen 59,607
Both near enough capacity crowds

Yes and what I'm saying is that if they had a decent established following instead of the "milky Joe glory hunting wanker hanger on Nu fans" they have they would fill there home ground with those fans who cant ususally get there hands on a ticket due to the regulars being in attendance..... Like Arsenal, West ham and and Spurs most likely would...especially for a european game against a famous club

Surely the grounds should be bigger tho'

yes, your right - Falkirk keep getting rejected in their application for a 89,000 all seater stadium tho, but yeah its something of a problem.

 are you mocking me :p

Just looked where Falkirk is! Between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and they have one of these: vvv

(They need a bigger ground.)

Surely fans – "nu" or old – can choose to support a club in any way they see fit. If that means going to games, great; but if not, I fail to see what business it is of anyone else's.

And, sure, Anderlecht are a famous club but they hardly generate the kind of excitement that Barcelona and Bayern do.

Agreed, it's pathetic. I'm pretty sure we got at least 4000 more than that for our drubbing of Villa on Monday...

They announced the attendance as being 29,000 odd on Monday I think.

But I'm surprised at Chelski's attendance.

PMSL

Scene 1: Royal tunbridge Well #1 Chelsea Supporters Club (est. 2005)

"Right lads, big game against those belguims tonight, remember its alright to support the team by being in the middle of london waving st. georges flags and singing jerusalem - yeh i know you don't know the rules of cricket but it never stopped all of us gettin to Stamford Bridge did it...."

Strange as every match I have ever attended has been full

They weren't all premiership games either Cup games were even full.

I love Chelsea :o

*ducks*

yes but as there fans (espeically on here) go on about how "great" they are all the time you would expect a sign of this greatness to be a full stadium with fans eager to watch there heros battle it out..............

my point is that cheski are shit and so are there fans..... nothing else just that

Well, Chelsea are league champions so clearly aren't "shit" and, again, I don't understand why their fans are "shit" for not attending when 1) ticket prices at the Bridge are very high, 2) the game was on telly and 3) playing Anderlecht just isn't that big a deal.

I think this is the point ! Every competitive game the team you support plays is a big deal , just beacuse the opposition aren't one of the famous clubs with famous players doesn't make it any less important !

Falkirk and co get small gates because their towns are full of glory hunting Old Firm fans bussing off to Ibrox and Parkhead every week.

Besides which, these towns are hardly comparable in size to middle/lower ranking Premier League towns/cities like Portsmouth or Sunderland. Scotland isn't that big in terms of population...

Well, yes it does because if ticket prices are high then you're sure to prioritise which games you go to see.

Maybe it's just me – I still consider myself a football fan but don't go to games anymore (I will do, though, once my sons are old enough to take) and although I still watch a lot of football on TV and keep up with the news and gossip it just really isn't that crucial to my existence anymore.

i know what you mean andy, I'm a HUGE monaco fan.... seriously - i don't go or anything, frankly its too expensive, but believe you me, if they were on the telly i would watch them all the time - it really annoys me when people say that we have shit fans just because our ridiculous ground is never full - don't these people realise that we have priorities?

Well thats where we're different then . If I found I had the £25 to go and see Charlton in my pocket I'd get a ticket and go that week no matter who they were palying . Can't you see by saying "I'll only pay to see my team watch a big club" pretty much identifies you as a part time fan because your not going to see your team play your making a decision based on who your opposition is ( and watching football on TV just doesn't cut it as supporting your team ) .

rararararara I am a MASSIVE chelsea fan, since I forked out for all the new kit for me and my family theres no way I can afford to go to any of the games, I only want to see us beat Barcelona 7-0 coz frankly anything else aint worth my money!

I'm prioritising the BIG games only

good grief.

Well, that's cool – I suspect you get a much bigger kick out of football than I do these days. :)

I'm not sure there's anything wrong with being a part-time fan, anyway. As I say people have different priorities – for them football isn't the be-all and end-all. Being a football fan isn't a competition to see who can be the best or most committed, it should be open to everyone regardless of how many years they've supported a club, how many obscure away fixtures they've attended or how many players from the 1940s they can name. Otherwise, it just turns into this dreadful trainspotting exercise.

And that's precisely the kind of attitude that I just find laughable. How does it hurt or bother you if someone only wants (or can only afford) to see the big matches? Why is it any of your business?

because andy, for many years we have to put up with (from first man utd and now chelsea) people coming out of the woodwork to have a gloat when they are playing well - people without the first clue about where their supposed favourite team plays never mind any of the history - people who go along to the game now that the team is winning to see their team win - who have no idea about what went before. And it gets annoying as fuck. No-one is saying you have to go to every game, god knows as someone who supoports a team 8hr round trip away i know how bloody expensive it is and yes i do pick and choose my games to a certain degree... buts its when half of your support cannot be arsed to see your team play champions league that everyone is fully entitled to point and laugh at the glory-hunting fans.

Like Man Utd, i do have a certain sympathy for chelsea, their traditional support can no longer afford to go to the games, slowly been edged out by people who don't care much for the team but rather want to sit their and be entertained (but only watching big teams) its more about wearing the shirt down the pub and boring everyone to death about how great your new team is....

I just want to knock Ch€l$ki about a bit....its FUN!

..the thing is Andy2002 the nu ch€l$ki fans often brag and shout the loudest like they did when they supported Man Ure, Blackburn whoever they used to support, its not about knocking the very few old skool fans its about laughing and knocking the glory hunters who to be frank anoy the fuck out of nearly every other fan simply for veing band wagon jumping fools.

Chorlton... it would appear that although your reply is more eloquently worded than mine we are currently expirencing some form of unconcious mind-meld-same posting phenomenom!! great:)

exactly - and then when its not a massive game (even though its first game of the CL the season after being crowned league champions for how many years) where are the nu lot? fucking nowhere. Do the club offer cut price tickets to the old fans that can't afford normal tickets? do they fuck. Everyones a loser.

its a disgrace, and one we'll be seeing fairly shortly at Arsenal no doubt. :(

(andy, of course the whole thing aint your fault amnd you're entitled to support your team however you like as you quite rightly pointed out)

I've been priced out of going to see Chelsea not by new fans of the club but by the greedy bastards who run the club itself. And that goes back to Bates' days in charge. Even if I could afford to go to Chelsea these days (I can't) I don't think I would because £48 is just too much to pay for a 90 minute match against poxy West Brom.

The main problem I have with some football supporters is just how unfriendly they can appear to new fans. There is a kind of 'old boys club' in place sometimes, where newbies are looked down upon because they haven't attended enough games or don't know enough arcane knowledge about their club. It comes off as a bit precious and a bit trainspottery and I find it easily as annoying as the type of 'new fan' you all seem to dislike so much.

why the fuck are West Brom 'poxy'? more interesting club than you lot....thats the fucking shite type of attitude that pisses people off.

I don't really think WBA are poxy – I was exaggerating to make a point. £48 is too much to see any club, whether it's West Brom or Barcelona.
