November Craft Club

At bloody last....

...finished the baby blanket.

It's a bit wibbly, but I'm dead chuffed with it, seeing as it's the first thing I've ever knitted  :D

(I'm never making one of these again!!!)

Bee, that blanket looks amazing!

I can do the 19th, too - sounds like a fantastic craft day out!

Damnit, having delurked & announced myself as a craft-clubber, I now can't come on the 19th - my mother has unexpectedly shown up on this side of the world (she lives in New Zealand) and I'm spending all weekend with her.

Cheers - she got it on Tuesday and loves it (ok, my brother loves it :D).

Took 10 weeks... but stitching it together was a bloody nightmare.. if I ever do one again it'll be with bigger squares.

never mind ada, next time next time!

You guys can all see the weird thing I'm knitting for my sister, born out of wanting to make her a jumper but being skint, so knitting extra bits onto a t-shirt. It works, it works...

Ok, I think I want to knit a hat, maybe a scarf and also a scarf/snood type thing I can wear when I'm cycling... or a knitted headband to keep my ears warm :D I have no idea where to find patterns though

I knitted myself a headband thing to wear cycling years ago - you really don't need a pattern for it. Just do knit one perl one until it's about 3 inches wide and then just do rows until it's a bit wider than your head. Works really well - I always found a hat too hot on the bicycle :)

ps I can no longer remember how to knit :o

We have a snood that was the most fought over item of warming to wear to do the horses in winter. Fucking genius inventions I reckon.

I don't know how to pearl trashy... maybe someone will teach me ;)

Don't you snigger at me gg! I'm sure that's the right name for what I'm picturing in my head  :D

I've foind that making headgear, it's best to make them slightly smaller than you head, so they have to stretch a bit to fit, then they actually stay on. Like measure you head and knock off about 10%.

Alternatively, make a toggle original hatty thingy, that you stick your hair through at the back.

Unless you're me - then model it on the nearest fucking MELON you can find

I have a thing you can borrow - I call it a neck gaiter. It's fleece though, not wool.

I think you'd look rather nice in that other snood though
Only if you won't be using it? That'd be cool.

Oh and  that other thing looks like a satsuma bag.

Not sure exactly where to measure my head so might bring a tape measure to the next meet and ask someone to help me :D

Where you want your hat to sit.

i really make 2 sorts of hat, the first is like a haj cap, worn with the edge horizontal, just above the eyes and the center point being right on top of the head. The other is worn with the edge running approx round the hairline, with the center point being about where you would wear a high ponytail.

the difference in shaping is really in the starting circumference and steepness of the decreaces over the top of the head (I always work from edge inwards if I can), less frequent decreaces giving a bigger hat. Anything else like patterning, detailing or rediculous tails on the back come after you sort out a basic shape.

I want to start on designing earflap hats, although that involves working from the top down, possibly using some sort of fair isle style designs.

It's my skiing thing and I can't see me skiing in the foreseeable future

There's something about that satsuma bag that is a tad Amish

(okay I'm going I'll stop interrupting your thread with nonsense)

The word "snood" instantly transports me to a world of puffball skirts, legwarmers, bodies, shoulder pads and single gloves.... :D

This sounds good - this time I have slightly more cash flow than last time I went there so plan to actually buy some knitting gear from the lovely I-Knit boys and start trying!! Lovely way to spend a Sunday :)
