not right for job - how long before you know?

zenie said:
Were you aware you were gonna travel 3 hours a day and have trips to Glasgow when you started?

I can't believe the company doesn't have an HR department?

i was obviously aware of the commute, but i didn't realise how much it would impact on me mentally and physically and no i wasn't aware of the joy that is glasgow.

it has the chief execs PA, she is HR, but as she herself says, she hates it :)

ok :(

Personally, I'd stay 6 months if I could although a 2 month job is easily explained as 'it wasn't permanent' innit? :);)

But we're now not sure (courtesy of Garf) if this is a new job within the same company or a new job at a new company iyswim.

i'm not really sure what you're advising me to do garf?
get a new job babe then as a parting shot say summit liek you do realise i would have stayed had you not been shit but in your own immetable and intellignet manner innit. :)

it is a new job at a new charity. well the charity is not new, but i am new to it, although hopefully not for much longer :)

If there aren't that many people there's no point in having an HR department...more than any other branch of admin, they really are just a cost to business, with nothing that can't be done by others. In small businesses having dedicated HR is a waste of time, space and money.

I believe dolly's gal joined a different company Garf. If I'm wrong - I'll apologise.

If you're wrong - I'll look forward to yours :)
no need for apologies either way is there? it's not about your ego or even anything else it's a thread about helping someone get settled in their mind what they should do about their future nothing else.

something that both your and baldrick innane asides seem to have forgotten.

As i said i'm well aware of the postitives and negatives of the approach i'm suggesting, and the reasoning behind it being sound. and also that you shouldn't in any instance rule out an option to an employee particularlly a valueable option to an employee who may actaully need to go down that route.

so perhaps you need to get off the high horse and refocus on the matter at hand rather than this pettyness eh :)

there's enough! there are c. 100 employees. they need someone to sort the HR, that isn't someone that hates it and has about six million other things to do!

Thank Christ for that - I thought I'd completely lost the plot for a few minutes then :D

yes, i'm sure. i won't be staying here just because we're friends. that would be ridiculous.

Oh, I didn't mean that - just that it mnight be easier to have a chat, rather than a Official Meeting type thing, iyswim :)

Could you work from home a day or two a week? Possibly have a think about your options working with the company first, rather than deciding it's all over and not worth it anymore

What is it that you don't enjoy?

Oh, and don't pack it right in now. You do yourself no favours CV-wise doing that

Nah, I think it looks better to get out quick-smart. You've got a good past employment record, so it'll be obvious that you left this one for good reason rather than just being a flaky individual.

If you get out quick and into a new job in a few years you might not even need to show this 2 month "blip" on your CV at all - straigt from 2001-2007 Company X, 2007-2010 Company Z, with no mention of Company Y in between.

Providing you can manage financially, it's not worth being miserable - just don't get yourself in a position where you replace work misery with financial misery and you'll be fine.

Work is just not worth being that unhappy for.

I thought my reponse to this post of yours was quite restrained in the circumstances :)

you're the one being petty.

you thought you were being clever by patronising cesare, but it turns out you were giving wrong advice which could have damaged dolly's position if she'd taken it.

and now you're above a two word apology. priceless.

I know I work for one ;) There's less than 15 of us here; any more and I think companies should have one.

I just assumed as Dolly's is a charity with offices in london and Glasgow it'd be big.

off topic attacks? grow a pair and don't make me laugh :D

If I were you I'd jump ship immediately dolly (but then I am a slightly flakey type) - no job's worth making yourself miserable for,

that's a no then ... i'd toddle back to suburban if were you and talk about crouquette or whatever it is you usually do... someone must have left the gin cupboard unlocked again... have you been taking your meds dear... yes that's right... no it's tuesday dear....

senile old baggage...

i'm up at 6.30, out the door by 7.30, work until about 6, then if the tubes aren't fucked, i'm home for 7.30, usually 8, which means i'm out the house generally for 12 hours a day. then i eat dinner and go to bed. unless i'm in glasgow, then i'm out the house for days on end.

you're right, i should jack it. it's just a question of when and what i do afterwards.

eta: oh and i'm often working when i'm at home as well.

Fuck that shit.

A job is what you do to get the bills paid - you go in, do as little as possible in as little time as possible, try and have as much fun as is possible and then get home as quick as you can and instantly forget about the place........unless you are one of the lucky peeps who actually enjoy their work (or are their own boss).

Get looking for something more local mate, by mid Dec you should have a list of places you want to work, and a CV tailored to each of the ones you are going to apply to. Send em out before Xmas and by the new year you should have had interviews and will be handing in your notice looking forward to a new job a new year and a new shopping trip to buy me something nice for this absolutely fantastic advice I've just given you :D

Unpaid overtime does seem to be par for the course in the "third sector" (I work in it), but it looks to me like they're taking the piss.

Is there any chance that you might be able to get TOIL?

Mind you, TOIL's no good if you never get chance to take it (my place has a limit of 20 hours on what you can build up).

I knew my last job wasn't for me after about a month, the travelling had a lot to do with it as well, on a bad day it could be four hours. I left on the three months, most employers were fine with it.

When you learn to write a sentence that makes sense and to use a spell checker, I might take notice of your risible attempts at insult.

Till then, I hope you carry on amusing yourself :)

yes those bloody infuriating cripples and spastics should really get of their lazy arses out of those wheelchairs and get a bloody job...

are you this abusive to other memebers of the disablled community? do you also pretend to talk to deaf people whislt merely mouthing the words? kick walking sticks from those with arthritus and tell them to hurry up?

exactly what pride is if for you to take the piss from disablled people and attempt to belittle them in such a manner?

here's a thought balders old girl, if you have nothign to contribute tot he thread WHATSOEVER why not keep your bigotted nonsenseical personal off topic attacks on other posters to your self. thus not proving to the surrounding community that you are in fact a rather loathsome poster who takes distinct pleasure in disablitiy bashing.

i'm not bashing your disability.

i'm aware that you have dyslexia. i know what it involves.

my issue is nothing to do with your disability, but the fact that your posts are tedious, pompous and veer into stunning irrelevency on a regular basis. this thread is no exception. THAT is why they don't make sense. you can take that as you wish and you can label me however you want, I really don't care.
