Not Owning a TV?

It's all well and good watching shows and stuff on your laptop or PC but there's nothing quite like lying on the sofa with a remote in your hand flicking channels. Probably just the couch potato in me. :)

I haven't had one since THIS HAPPENED...and don't miss it at all!

I watch a bit of stuff on iplayer and Channel4's watch again thingy...and other than that, make do with torrents.

So I still watch telly, just far less shit than I used to and without having to watch it at any given time, too.

I just move the mouse and mat over with me. :o :p

Sometimes you stumble upon a programme that you would never have thought to watch and it turns out to be really good.

I also enjoy the flickering light on my face.

Never watch TV, save for the odd X Factor about once every two weeks or Jools Holland. I cant concentrate on it.

For me though, it's easily worth missing those for all the time I've spent sat in front of stuff that wasn't interesting, but that I was just too lazy to turn off/go and do something else.

Anyway - I've stumbled across exactly those sorts of things whilst browsing the iplayer categories etc. :p

What about your poor children? Don't they have a telly?!:(

No.

They have lots of DVD's, stuff that I download for them and exactly the same access to iplayer etc that I do, so for example my daughter watches a bit of CBeebies most days.

My son's usually too busy alternately building and smashing up LEGO CITY HQ :hmm: on the allotment, to be fucked watching telly anyway (which was already the case when the telly blew).

We have been watching Amazon together though  - and he'll sometimes watch a Secret Show or something before dinner.

So I don't think they suffer too much. :(

Not having internet access is the new not having a TV. :p

I do have telly. All I seem to watch on it is News Night and repeats on Dave. Which amounts to about 4 hours viewing a week. I'd watch more, if I could get a signal in the bedroom. Find it quite relaxing dropping off with some random shit on low. Radio keeps you awake.

Personally I love watching TV.

I prefer a combination of watching news on TV, and getting a fix of it later online and through the radio/press. Stuff seems to happen quicker on live TV and I like pictures to go along with what's happening.

Plus there's loads of good sport on which I'd only end up going down the pub for anyway if I didn't have a TV to watch it on as well as the odd film that I'd miss or not hear about if I wasn't flicking stations.

Can't stand X Factor/Celebrity Ice Dancing type stuff though. I just choose not to watch any of that and spend time doing other stuff.

Works for me.

The width of the watchable bit of my monitor is 17" ...which isn't far off what my old telly was. The sound is far, far better than my old telly cos I've got decent speakers and a great big peculiar bass box thingy... :hmm:

Of course, what I actually meant, was this.....

Subwoofer & 2 satellites

 :o

My telly was shit, mind you! :D

I do think LTC should open his mind to the idea of torrents. He seems to have this idea that it's all crappy quality, when often it's better than TV quality IME...

I do have a TV... and a DVD player, and I should really give them away as I never use them. I watch two or three programs on my laptop where I play films, too...

Can't stand watching sports, reality TV, the news, daytime TV... it all bores me. Two of my housemates used to make me sit through hour after hour of tennis or peep show (aaaaaarrrrrrr) or (this Welsh guy 'Bear' who ran around outside eating insects and moss) :( The music channels were useful for house parties though.
