Not just Brixton that gets bad press

It was only because there were free tickets for the place available everywhere, all the time. I was an indie girl really, but I used to go to langtrees with my sister (who wasn't) and never told my friends about it, because they'd take the piss. I secretly like the cheezy tackiness of it :o

Never went to Langtry's. Some people I knew ventured out of the suburbs to Bonne Bonnes or down to Croydon for Atlantis or the Blue Schoolkid. I never did - doubt I missed much :D

Imagine a thread about how scary and violent w/c black areas are....but its okay to generalise about working class white areas....hmmmm.

Wow what a responce.

I was just expecting a hold load of shouldn't this be in the Kent forum responces.

I argee about the big fish in a small pond thing, in the inner-city all i get is people asking for a £1 and not so much mouth.

I not tring to plug my site but theres a guide about the pubs in Bromley if you want to walk down memory lane!

I reguarly drink at the swan and the railway. :p

Yes, we seem to have diverted your thread somewhat. :o

Do you mean the West Wickham Swan and Railway? I spent ten years in that bloody town!

Nice site btw :)

My daughter feels incredibly unsafe in the smart pubs up by Bromley North. On any given evening it's full of geezers wanting to fight other geezers or pull birds and little else. She feels out of her depth (being a Brixton gal) in pubs like that despite not being shy or timid. The Wetherspoons opposite Bromley South has a very young clientele (under-age drinkers in skimpy clothes *allegedly*) but is one of the more acceptable with a very nice manager.....she dictated this btw

Ah, possibly not then.
Christ, the Tiger's Head and the Bickley Arms - that whole Bromley circuit is coming back to me now.
Harp club/Venue on a weekend night was it?

(Can't quote you for some reason)

Yes..... The Venue...... every Friday night without fail..... saw SO many good bands there........ including Nirvana well before they were famous...... tons of Back to the Planet, Carter, The Sea, Skunk Anansie etc etc.... used to love the free festies behind the Venue in New Cross....... met my first boyfriend there and ended up with him for 4 years....... it was like a second home...... :)

Langtrys! I only went there once under duress. That was forever being raided I remember..... I know one of the girls in my sixth form got arrested for trying to hide her coke up inside her "love tunnel" on the dance floor as the police arrived!

Classy joint!

Is Bromley working class? Extremely middle class I would say! Parts of it are extremely upper class for that matter. My Mum lived on one of the worst estates in Bromley and even that was pretty ok..... next to Green fields and horseys and stuff.

Agree with this. I'd say bromley was predominantly middle-class, with upperclass areas bordering it (I'm thinking of places like Keston, Farnborough, Chislehurst/Bickley etc).

eww, that's disgusting. I'm rather hungover today and that image just didn't help at all!

Langtrys is a deffinate no go area, I've never been there without seeing a fight between some kids.

I ment the Railway in Bromley North.

Any yes, Bromley is middle class, but has working class areas like the crays. ;)

There is no Kent forum.

Knew it! Used to love that nightbus from hell back to Bromley at the end of the night. :D

You should have a pm somewhere - I don't think we actually knew each other, but we sure as hell moved in the same circles. :)

I grew up in the Bromley area too.Used to drink in the 3 Compasses and the Railway, but slightly earlier than Orangesanlemons and Gaijingirl.

Bromley does have its fair share of boozed up lads, but I have never felt threatened there. They usually only go after each other.

I prefer Brixton as an area, but you are much more likely to get Scammed or hassled in Brixton.

Good point mr krs. I was in the Partridge a few weeks ago, and I was surprised how nice it was in comparison to the other places in Bromley.

But the Partridge wasn't bad at all. The Bricklayers Arms going towards Bromley Common is a very nice pub too.
Both decent pubs. The Bricklayers has a great real ale offie next door. Also the Abbaye (tacked on to the side of the Glades) does lovely Belgian beer and food.

There was an Urban 75 trip to Chislehurst in April. We went on a tour of the caves and visited the Bulls Head and the Ramblers Rest.
