Northern Soul - recommendations, please.

Al Wilson - The Snake

Dobie Gray - Out on the floor

Tobi Legend - Time Will Pass You

Jimmy Radcliffe - Long After Tonight Is Over

Dean Parrish - I'm On My Way

Quality selection.

"Long After Tonight is All Over" is always the last track on every Northern Soul compilation (except for all the ones that it isn't).

I believe the last three jeff_leigh mentioned were on a 7" called 'Three Before Eight" - as in 8 am, as they were often the last ones to be played at all-nighters.

My brother had a copy - must ask him if he's still got it!

Beautiful, beautiful songs, all three of them.

If you're ever in Portsmouth go to the Wedgewood rooms and check out Hipshaker. It is f'ing excellent - pricey but well worth it.

Speaking of which, did anyone see the short ( 7 minutes) film of the same name by Matt Stokes which won the Beck's Future's prize at the ICA in 2006?

It was set in a disused church in Dundee where they used to hold Northern Soul nights which he re-created - filming people dancing to that tune.
I found it really haunting - watched it over about four or five times.
