I think the US multilateral approach on NK, i.e. involving the South Koreans, Chinese, Japanese and Russians has worked well, and historians will give Bush high marks on this.

Is there some hypocricy involved? Of course, its foreign policy and you can't have a glove fits all approach.

They have increased sanctions and tried to block Russia out of the talks as much as possible

It was very kind of the US to invite North Koreas neighbours to the talks tho....

I know, the Chinese would like it if the Americans dealt directly with the North Koreans and helped to pay them off and prop up the regime in Pyongyang. North Korea is just a drain on the Chinese treasury.

Thankfully the US has not gone down this path.

South Korea says it may stop all tours to North Korea unless safety is guaranteed, after a female visitor to the communist state was shot dead by a soldier last week.

Seoul has already halted visits to Mount Kumgang resort after the July 11 killing of a woman who strayed into an apparently poorly marked restricted military zone
