So far everyone's speculations are largely political, temporal or materialistic...

This is true, I suspect these folks are mostly just disenchanted with the vacuity of American life.

The numbers are also pitifully small. Even if you ignore its security and race problems Israel is a nasty little pisshole of a country and unsuprisingly has been a country of net emmigration for some time.

I suspect you'd find more Americans emigrating to somewhere moderately civilised like France.
