Norfolk ravers lay siege to police station.

it's only fair after all.

it's very bad form to put on a party within earshot of locals IMO.

Unfortunately within earshot witb some of the soundsystems used can be, dependant upon the geology, and topography, of an area and the wind direction, 10 miles.

10 miles?, that's one hell of a rig.

Well fucking hell! Looks like he's addicted to urban just like the rest of us ;-)

*Turns the music up real loud hopeful and pins hopes upon the geology, and topography, of an area and the wind direction, 10 miles*

It is, it would be a waste of time trying to take it out with a shotgun. It would need a lot more firepower than that.
The problem with the total and complete arseholes who have that rig is they do not give a fuck about how difficult they have made it for others who have been holding over-night parties for many years with no problem or complaint.

anyone holding a rave somewhere thats going to cause complaints is going to find the police being heavy handed and cheered on by the media:(
fine if you do it in the middle of nowhere without causing problems

And cheered on by local residents. The police excuse of "we took no action for fear of provoking a public order incident" is wearing very thin.
They could at the very least Field Impairment Test every driver leaving the event.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this incident, I can't see that deliberately provoking confrontations with the cops is going to be a winning move in the long or short term.

It's not a war, the police can't be "defeated" by smashing their windows or wrecking a police car.

All that is going to be achieved is that the cops will come down harder and nastier on other parties in the area.

Giles..

I sort of agree with you, but I'm willing to bet that at least some of the provocation came from the Police -- as Dan U has indicated. It's perfectly possible to be well critical of the Police and critical of some ravers/rig owners being idiots at the same time ....

But I still think tobyjug's such an extreme reactionary as to make even the mouth of this near-45 year old drop open
I'm sure his views were very much welcomed by the 'hardcore revolutionaroes' of the 'dissident site' he once used to hang out on ...

No you're just a Tory but didn't realise - nothing to do with age. Plenty of people who think they're pretty rad 'grow out of it' cos their convictions never ran that deep. Then they put it down to age.

And, considering it's Norfolk, most locals will back the Police anyway and are never going to look at big illegal parties with anything other than contempt. Who gives a fuck what they think ? the issue is how to continue partying now a war's been started with the old Bill.

A Tory? Mmm...nah. I hold the Thatcher/Major years for screwing up my education (and Blair for getting us into the quagmire that was Iraq.)

The only big political theme I've consistently felt strongly about (that hasn't changed since the age of about...10) is environmentalism. If I have to have a label attached to me I'll go with that one.

Given that Gt Yarmouth is one of the most deprived regions of East Anglia (as I found out when I did some work with some community-based groups there a couple of years ago), the attack on the police station probably had a lot more to do with it than just a gang of drunken rah-ty boys wanting to trash a police station. Questions abound in terms of what made pressure build up within the cooker and what was the spark that caused it to explode.
