Noncing Nursery Nanny Nicked

correct emotional response? That S- isn't mandated. But we must not allow legitimate anger to lead us to persecute the unconvicted.

I agree, but I don't see any persecution. I don't see a lynch mob around the police station, just a few people on Facebook letting off steam. It's no worse than the thousands of real life conversations that are probably going on right now about the same subject.

Look I did your censorship for you:cool:

I am most obliged. However, it's not censorship but propriety. :)

It's the whey-faced row all over again.

I am angry about the BNP winning two seats in the European elections.

However I would not call them "dirty b- who I hope die and rot in hell". If that is not 'beyond anger' I don't know what is

The fact that some people are unable to express themselves in a dignified way points to a lack of self-discipline rather than a surfeit of anger.

I think that people's genuine disgust at this matter needs to be acknowledged in a way that doesn't indulge a desire for vigilantism.

Nah, a lot if not all of those baying for blood in such way are not failing at self-discipline, but basic humanity.

On the contrary, they are exposing themselves as all too human.
You know what I mean by humanity. Anyone who calls for throat cutting and similar actions, regardless of whether the person has been found guilty yet (but specially if they have not) lacks in basic humanity.

Nothing to do with how they express themselves or control their emotions.

ugh what a sick woman

i find the facebook groups a bit distasteful but keep in mind a lot of the people posting on them have probably been abused themselves tbh

As a few posters have pointed out, these are just allegations at the moment.

Should her name be plastered all over the media given that she's not yet been proven guilty?

I completely agree. This is the easy-access 21st century version of going to watch a hanging. There are various people on that group trying to point out that the woman (assuming that the profile they've identified even is the accused) hasn't actually been tried yet, but it's not good enough for the screaming harridans - they've already decided they know, and the half-bricks are clutched in sweaty palms, slack mouths twisted into a rictus of hatred and fear on pasty white faces. Because these people are better than that - oh yes, they live for finding people they're better than, and it's not easy, so they don't let go when they find one. They're hot to trot, now, and they're not going to be done until they've seen blood. Metaphorical, safely-behind-this-here-monitor internet blood, obviously, not yer actual nonce's blood-of-the-devil evil hellspawn blood. That'd stain, eurgh.

:D

Agnes doesn't indulge in those daft feelings of superiority that she detects in the frightful white plebs. No, no, no.... And she's not full of hatred. No, no, no...

I didn't think "whey" seemed terribly original in the circumstances. I had a small private bet with myself that it'd be butchers who kicked off, though, so it's his fault I'll be drinking too much beer tomorrow. Shame I didn't go for the double on the "outraged parent" response option, or I could have been coming home in a wheelbarrow...

I'll confess to a modicum of superiority over the kind of idiot who doesn't see why it's necessary for there to be due process, and who feels that her rage should trump everything else from common sense to basic humanity, yes.

As for "full of hatred"...nah, you've got me all wrong there. That was an amusing rant, not hatred. Perhaps you're just running away with your projection there... ;)

um, I'm not sure our Agnes is actually a woman... the profile pic would seem to suggest otherwise.

Has she been found guilty yet?

a very valid point

i think it's more serious than that.

it seems that

What is the correct emotional response to a case like this? Isn't anger to be expected? I'd be more concerned if people were indifferent to the matter.

The great thing about our legal system is that it allows people both to express their anger in conversations while at the same time protecting the accused from their violence and only delivering a ppropriate punishment if a court decides guilt.

i think fear is the first response and anger rises from that.

If agnes is cleft of genitals I should like to Bone her. And like any internet geek I would do iy for the lulz;)

523.

And there are now three 'Vanessa George' groups.

Including the 'don't hold back now' group, Child abuser Vanessa George from Little Teds Nursery should be strung up!!

It's almost like some peple use the internet to express impotent unthinking rage to validate their irrelevant non enterty existences...

you should have seen urban when someone killed a cat...

I read some of the comments on the facebook page and some of them are parents of children at the nursery and they are in a terrible state of anxiety, as you would expect.

One thing that they keep saying is something along the lines that the police have told them some things that people outside the situation do not know.

It is hard to know exactly what has happened here or what the police really did or did not say of course and sometimes what people say and what people hear can be different.

However, given that the parents have been meeting together with the police and other relevant professionals it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the police have said some things just to the parents that have generated a lot of rage and confusion.

So, it seems to me that these groups are a volatile mix of people who will join any angry mob and who claim that she must be guilty because of the nature of the charges, rational people who will point out that this woman has not been convicted and is till technically innocent, and parents who believe that she is guilty because of somethings that the police actually said or that they believe that the police said, but that the police might not have actually said.

Good job you're above moral indignation and putting yourself above others then, eh?

Yeah, phew! I mean, wouldn't it be awful if I wasn't? I might even be more like you - always ready to jump to a conclusion about someone's motives and what they were thinking! Brrr, perish that thought!
