Non-english Uk team of all time

That photo's up there with the Vinnie and Gazza one for me.

That picture looks like it's come straight out of a viz cartoon :D

Only one person has included John Charles up front. That'd be the same John Charles who was voted Juventus' best ever foreign player in 1997, the one who scored 150 goals in 297 appearances for Leeds, and then 93 in 150 for Juve. Never got a card, and could (and did) play centre back as easily as he could play up front.

Andy fucking Gray, I ask you :hmm:

Best Welsh player evah, IMO. Better than Rushie for sure.

E2A: Buds beat me to it :)

Hahahahahahahaha. You ever seen Hughes play live, revol?

nope.

but him, Law and Best playing as an attacking trio would be immense, certainly much more dynamic than Rush who was more an out and out striker.*
* basically cos he's red shite and even before I could shite on a toliet my dad was cursing Rush.

Just for the record: top flight clubs games played to goals scored - I've chosen each players 4 most prolific club spells to avoid confusion:

Charles: Leeds 297/150; Juve 150/93; Leeds 11/3; Roma 10/4. Average goals per game = 0.45
Rush: Liverpool 224/139; Juve 29/12; Liverpool 245/90; Leeds 36/9. Average goals per game = 0.41
Hughes: ManU: 89/37; Barca 28/4; ManU: 256/82; Chelsea 95/25. Average goals per game = 0.29

Hughes was a great striker, but he wasn't a GREAT striker. Rush is one of the best there ever was, but John Charles was a true legend. First UK big money signing for a foreign club, and didn't they get their money's worth? Lucky enough to see the auld fella shortly before his death when he walked out in the MillStad before the Wales Italy qualifier a few years ago. To see two sets of fans - Italian and Welsh - rise to applaud him really shows what kind of player he was.

RIP, butt

E2A: Incendiary comment that you obviously caught originally edited out because I don't fancy an argument :):p

Yes Hughes wasn't an out and out striker though, comparing him to Rush is like comparing a Tevez or Rooney to say Ruud van Nistelrooy.

I was thinking of an attacking trio of Best, Hughes and Law with alot of movement.

Any takers for Shay Given to maybe make the bench, behind Jennings? I think he's incredibly underrated, mainly because he's had the likes of Boumsong and Bramble to marshall.

From what I've read, Celtic's 1967 team were just that, a team. Obviously they had good players but perhaps were greater than the sum of their parts, the mark of a truly great team (see also Nottingham Forest 79-80).

which begs the question, who would manage them?

ferguson, stein, shankly, busby... a toughie. what is it with the scots and managers?!

maybe jackie charlton

AFAIK people born on the Channel Islands can pick any of the 4 home nations.

That's right. Also, apparently they are also eligible to play for France. When he was France manager, Platini tried to get Le Tiss in the French team, but he - unwisely in retrospect? - knocked him back.

What about Ron Davies? He was a Welsh international who played for Southampton and in 1968 was voted by sports journos the best striker in Europe.

He was actually voted the best non Italian ever to play in Italy, in 1999, by the Italian sports press.

Anybody who doesnt have him in their team is just wrong!

Michael Parkinson was once asked to pick the greatest team of players he had seen play, he picked JC twice!!
