just water and newspaper does no worse a job than anything else, IME.

Genuinely, I clean my windows with water and newspaper. I use two pages for each pane - I put the water on to the pane with a sponge or cloth, and then wipe it off with newspaper, and then use a dry sheet to dry it.

I have been doing this for decades.
